Lucie sat on her bed crying. He had taken hardly any notice of her at all, except to say:
"Miss Cuthbert"~how formal and cold~"whatever may have occurred in the past I do believe it is time for us to move to pastures new. And I feel it would be far easier if we cut off connection completely." And with that he had turned on his heel and strolled off, leaving Lucie standing there confused.

'What had she done wrong?' she wondered. She had played it so lightly these past months, all the others had welcomed her back with open arms, smothering her with kisses, compliments and more, the more being what she liked best. And then she realised...she had left it too long and had left it on a quarrel.

Well she would learn when it came to others, for Lucie would go to others. For a time she had loved Matthew Crawley, but soon love had faded to lust. Well she would return to America, marry the wealthy pig Robert Singleton, act the charming wife, spend his money rather than hers and find herself another man to toy with. Such as it had occurred with Edwin Goodman.
