We were walking home today.

We did live next to each other; which I guess is why we were friends in the first place.

It was the end of the first day of senior year-some people (like Adrian) were relieved that our time in this small town was almost up.

Others (me) were devastated.

I had less than a year left with Adrian.

I wasn't stupid; of corse I know we'll stay 'friends' after high school- our families have grown close over the years- but once this year is over, the real world begins.

Adulthood, settling down...moving on from this small town where we grew up and from all the people we don't absolutely have to keep in touch with.

I'm sure I won't be much of a priority once Adrian finds the girl he wants to be with. He's always wanted to settle down fast, have a family.

It's what I want too- he knows that.

He just doesn't know that I want that with him.

"Race ya'" He yells as we make the last turn onto our street. I laugh as he takes off and stumbles on his feet.

We run the rest of the way.
