~Emi’s POV~
My limbs felt like lead, my throat was dry and scratchy, I cold sweat covered my body, my eyes couldn’t focus and it was getting harder to breathe. I shakily wiped my hands on my dress taking a step closer to Jake. We were currently frozen on the back porch, looking around frantically for Mr. and Mrs. Beaumont. Ronan and Lara’s parents! The others had quickly spread out to mingle with the families gathered. Jake and I had agreed in the car to just get it over with and introduce ourselves. Easier said when you’re in a car nowhere near them.
“Maybe” I paused and swallowed loudly “We should do a couple rounds and get a drink before saying hello?” I gestured vaguely to a table groaning under the amount of drinks piled there
“But” Jake cleared his shaky voice “What if they see us avoiding them?” he asked glancing around furtively. This was how it had been as children, psyching each other into doing stupid stuff that always resulted in us being in trouble
“Jake, they’re not out here first of all and even if they were, we would like crazy people on crack if we tried talking to them in this state.” I explained reasonably. He nodded and dragged me to the drink table.
“They are going to hang me by my balls” he groaned into his cup.
“Probably” I nodded along absentmindedly, searching the party for the first sign of them
“Hey honey, hey son” my Dad boomed walking towards us. He clapped Jake on the shoulder and started to give him a pep talk about meeting the parents. I spotted Lucas huddled in a corner talking animatedly to his sister Kara. I made my way over and put on my Alpha face for his parents benefit.
“Hello” I said smiling and making the traditional gesture amongst wolves by turning my head so my chin was in line with my shoulder and tilted slightly back. Both parents completed the gesture by placing their first three fingers to my neck briefly. The gesture symbolized trust and humility between fellow wolves.
“Hello Alpha Emiri” His mother replied smiling at me. The older generation were apart of this pack and if they needed we would help and vice versa. However they weren’t up to date with all issues.
“I thought I should let you know that Kara’s official training will start next week before we must leave for the Tri-Annual Wolf Tournament.” I wasn’t in a position to be social right now. I was an Alpha and this was one of my harder duties. Both her parents shared a look and turned their hard gazes to me.
“With all do respect Alpha but Kara is not ready yet. You are unnecessarily putting her in danger.” Her dad was getting angry and as a result forgetting his place in this pack. I had loosened my wolf’s leash a little to let the Alpha aura be noticeable, now however she was growling with threat and disobedience from the pair in front of her.
“You are forgetting yourself.” I spoke down to the man. Putting the power of not only my wolf, but the long line of Alpha’s I descended from behind my words. “And making a scene. Now you have mistaken my statement for a suggestion. There are no if’s but’s or maybe’s about it. Kara will be there next week however she will return home three days a week as she is still young.” My imperious tone had their heads bowed in submission. I turned to Lucas who was smiling gratefully
*Thank you Emi. I know my parents look annoyed but they’ll come around* He mind linked me. With a heavy heart I surveyed his parents. It took all I had not to comfort them, that would just undermine all I had said. So I turned and walked away…
