"Really?"
"Really."
Gerard takes a hesitant step towards me. And another. And one more, until we are so close that I could place my hand on his. His golden brown irises are right next to mine. I think he is going to kiss me.
And he does. His lips are soft and gently on mine, caressing my lower lip gently. It's a sweet kiss. The kind that is someone's first ever kiss in movies. He cradles me with his arms, resting them on my back. Safety and warmth floods through me.
"I can't believe it," I whisper blissfully against Gerard's lips in sheer amazement. "I thought this would never happen."
Gerard nuzzles my chin. "Why?" He mumbles distractedly, his hands still on my back. His fingers carve spirals into my shoulder blades.
"I killed your brother. I thought you hated me."
"You saved me from a monster," Gerard explains. "You probably saved my life but even before that, I loved you. You mean more to me than you think."
I wrap my hands around the back of his neck, pulling him even closer. I run my fingers through his matted black hair, marvelling at how soft and silky it is. Sparks dance wherever our skin is touching, like an electric current travelling between us.
Lost in the kiss, both us ignore the gentle knocking at the door. It can wait. The entire world can wait.
I am in love with Gerard Way and he is in love with me. This is it. Everything I have ever wanted.
"Uh, am I interrupting something?" A rough, warbling voice asks.
I jump hastily away from Gerard, my face burning intensely. I'm greeted by the unpleasant sight of Brenda Urie, her massive forehead hidden by a lacy nightcap.
Now don't get me wrong, I have nothing against old ladies. I help them cross the road, or hold their shopping bags whenever I can. But Brenda Urie has the worst timing in the entirety of America. It's like she tries to walk into my house whenever something important is going on.
"Hi," Gerard introduces himself politely. "I'm Gerard Way. Frank's boyfriend."
Boyfriend? Score.
"Oh. Hello there." Brenda is completely calm. The only person who isn't at all flustered by the fact that she just walked in on her neighbour kissing a boy. "The door was unlocked Frank. I hope you don't mind me just walking in."
"Oh, uh I guess." I stutter. I'm not going to be rude to her, even though she just performed the most irritating cockblock of the century. "Uh what did you want anyway?"
She lounges against the DVD cabinet, knocking one or two off in the process. Gerard watches me grit my teeth in frustration and places his arm around me sympathetically.
"I just wanted to borrow some milk." She says sweetly, from between her teeth.
I've already mentioned her insane obsession with milk, but she has a serious problem. I went inside her house once and she got the milk out for a hot drink. She had ten gallons of milk in her fridge. Milk is for cereal. Or coffee. I swear she buys it just to look at it. No one could drink that much of the stuff.
"Milk?" Asks Gerard, his eyebrows furrowed.
"Okay, I'll get get it," Quickly as I can, I walk into the kitchen and grab the container of milk out of the fridge, not wanting to leave poor Gee in a room with Brenda for too long.
When I go back into the front room, Gee and Brenda are already engaged in the world's most awkward conversation.
"Yes actually, I do have a boyfriend," Brenda explains, replying to a question that I didn't hear. "He's called Ryan."
"And does he like milk as much as you do?" Gerard blusters.
"Well, maybe even more than I do," Brenda winks, her caked on makeup cracking in about four places. "He's at the house now for my birthday party tomorrow, you could meet him!"
Me and Gerard both throw up in our mouths. "No, no, it's fine," Gerard refuses hastily.
"We wouldn't want to impose!" I add.
"Suit yourselves!" Brenda laughs it off. "Off I trot then."
I wave goodbye, cringing at every word that comes out of her cherry red mouth. As soon as she's out the door I lock it. I learn from my mistakes.
I sigh. "Sorry about that."
Gerard chuckles offhandedly. "Don't worry about it. I have annoying neighbours too."
I manage to stop myself from snorting aloud. Gerard's neighbours are probably crazy millionaires who drink champagne and have afternoon tea. I bet the worst thing that's ever happened is their prize poodle peeing on the lawn.
I feel so relaxed. Two days ago I killed Gerard's brother and now we can joke about milk and irritating neighbours. Maybe Mikey did kill me, because this feels like heaven.
"I just can't believe my birthday's on the same day as hers!" I joke boisterously.
"What?"
"Brenda said she's having a party tomorrow," I explain. Gerard shakes his head impatiently.
"I know, I know; I was listening. But your birthday is tomorrow?" Horror spreads across his face. "Why didn't you tell me? I would have got you a card or a present or anything!" He wails.
Contentedly, I nestle my head in Gee's shoulder. "I don't need a present or a card, I just need you." The cheesy line makes me cringe internally, but I say it anyway, hoping it will make him forget about my birthday.
Gerard leaps away from me, like he has springs glued to the bottom of his shoes. "No. No way are you getting out of this Frank Iero." He smirks. "Tomorrow is going to be the best birthday ever!"
Sighing, I cross my arms stubbornly. I form my lips into a pout and blink seductively. "Please don't do this."
Gerard creeps back next to me and places his lips on mine for a split second. As I lean in to deepen the kiss, he pulls away, grinning cheekily.
"I like this idea." He announces loudly.
He glances at me to gauge my reaction. My arms stay crossed. "In fact, I need to buy preparations right now. Stay right here," He directs. "II'll be back later."And with that he races out of the door slamming it behind him. He almost knocks over my favourite houseplant which is sat next to the radiator.
I unpause the TV, which has been showing that image of Gee for this whole time. I yawn, and I smile. Despite my nagging and complaining, I'm glad that Gerard wants to celebrate my birthday.
It means he cares.
It also means I get free cake.
Switching the TV off completely, I start the climb upstairs. I may as well get to bed while Gerard's gone, it's late anyway.
Cunningly, I chose my least embarrassing pyjamas, guessing that Gerard will see me in them tomorrow morning. The chosen pair are faded black, with tiny stars all over them. They are actually aesthetic.
I yawn again, throwing the covers over myself and snuggling into the pillow. Today was a good day.
Maybe even the best.
