My eyes scan the classroom
silently taking attendance
I freeze
when I spot
the lonely, empty desk
that usually houses Madison
Where is she?
She's never missed
school before
no matter how bad it got
I didn't get a note
She's not sick
not physically, anyway
I pull Cassidy aside
she has no clue
Her eyes are saucers
She doesn't pay attention
the rest of class
Neither do I
Panicking
I leave the class
to make a call
