This Time

The corners of her lips

Turned up into a smile

That didn't quite reach her eyes.

Her mouth opened up to speak

Telling of empty, meaningless words,

Yet filled with little white lies.

Her eyes swollen,

From yesterday's tears

Screaming, "Help me,"

But she says she's fine.

Sunken face,

Yellowing teeth,

She's gone to get her high.

Stuck in a daze,

This is her relief,

But it doesn't suffice this time.

She thinks,

Sleeping pills

Will help her sleep off the pain tonight.

One, two,

Oh no, that's three.

Sixteen more,

Then there's nine...teen.

She closes her eyes

Calm for once

Because this time

She will be fine.
