Chapter Nine

Today was Sunday and I am to help Anne and Gemma with reorganising their books in their new home library. Anne had called asking if today was okay to help out and seeing as I had no homework or didn't have to work at the music store, I accepted.

The weather was a little warm, so wearing my band t-shirt and skirt I am able to get away with it.

Knocking three times on their door, I waited only a few seconds before the door opened, revealing a well dressed Anne, "oh, Koda your here, thank goodness, we need all the help we can get."

She moves aside for to step into her home. It is quite a modern fashionable look, and very large and spacious, the walls are painted a maya shade of blue.

"It's no problem Mrs. Styles."

"It's Anne to you, Koda, not that mrs styles stuff." She kindly smiled as she lead me through a large arch way to the library, which is right next to the front door.

I couldn't help the gasp that left me as my eyes landed on the array of books in the one room. They were sprawled out on the floor, at half of then already shelved.

"You have so many book, there must be over a thousand in here."

Anne laughs, "I know it's quite overwhelming when you look at them like this. I suppose that's why we need all the help we can get. Gemma will be joining us soon, if you could please start over there on those books, they go on the forth shelve on that side."

The next hour was spent with making conversation with Anne and putting books on shelves. Soon enough Gemma had joined and started on her own stack of books.

Grabbing another book from the pile, I see that it is a Shakespeare novel; King Lear, I am familiar with Shakespeare's works but I have yet to read his King Lear. Looking down at the pile in front of me I realise that there are more of his works; Macbeth, Hamlet, Romeo & Juliet.

"I didn't realise that you had the complete works of Shakespeare, Anne."

"My goodness I almost forgot that we had those. If you want you could borrow then anytime."

I smile shaking my head, "I couldn't ruin such a nice copy." The books looked untouched, in such mint condition.

Heavy footsteps were heard, I look up seeing navy blue jumpsuit and black boot make there way down stairs. I quickly turn back to the shelve.

"Mom, I'm going to work now," his voice is a deep rasp, by the sounds of its like he just woke up.

"Harry wait for a second," I slide another book onto the shelve next to another, "Koda I have something I want to ask you."

When I turn around to face Anne, my eyes catch sight of him, his hair is damp, and those short curls are pulled back with a black bandana. He stands near his mom, both of them on the other side of the room.

"Koda, do you tutor?"

Confused by Anne's question I furrow my eyebrows, "uh, no I don't. Why?"

"You father told me that you are to top of your class for English Literature, so I thought if it would be a possibility you could perhaps... tech Harry a few things."

Harry's head snapped to him mom in a second, glaring at her, "mom I don't need a tutor, I have better things to do--"

"No Harry. Not this time. If Koda agrees your doing it. I'm not taking no for an answer." Anne raised her voice at Harry and he immediately backed down. Looking over at Gemma, she stayed quiet, seeming uncomfortable with situation at hand. I speak, "Harry's right Anne, he has work."

She sighs, "please excuse Harry and I for a moment," and with that she tugs Harry buy his elbow, away, down the hall.

"What was that about?" I ask Gemma.

She puts the book she's holding and takes a step towards me, "something happened to Harry awhile back, he dropped out of school when he was sixteen, never went back nor did he go to college. He used to love reading, he doesn't anymore. Mom worries about him you know, what is he going to do when he's older, he is only twenty and the only thing he knows is how fix cars. I guess mom just wants Harry to have that little bit of extra knowledge."

Hearing footsteps again, Anne and Harry reappear in the large archway. "Koda please, I would love it if you could teach Harry some literature, that's it just brush up on some books or something, please."

Glancing at Harry, he is still glaring at his mother.

"I'll only do it if he agrees."

His eyes look to me. Anne turns to him waiting for him to answer. Still looking at me he exhales a heavy sigh and annoyed glare in my direction, he then looks back at Anne. "Fine." He leaves for the front door and slams it behind him.
