Chapter Thirteen

I feel a single droplet on my cheek. Odd. This morning it was fairly sunny before I left for school. Looking up, the clouds have turned a dark grey, a vast contrast from what it was this morning.

Hoping that it won't turn into heavy rain I quicken my pace as I walk home. Unfortunately I was without my car, for wouldn't start up for me this morning, the alternate option was to walk to and from school. Of course Jacob and holly weren't happy about that since I was there ride, but they both texted me not to wait up for them because of some other things that they wanted to do after school.

I was with luck, managing to walk without a single drop landing on me, maybe it had cleared up.

I was only a few houses away from my house, but I had spoken too soon for the sprinkle rain of rain had returned with more force.

Quickly using my folder as some sort of coverage I hold it above my head and jogging on the pavement and onto my front lawn

Quickly using my folder as some sort of coverage I hold it above my head and jogging on the pavement and onto my front lawn.

Just as I take down my folder from my head, still standing on the front lawn, Harry is sitting on my front porch steps, watching me.

I almost forgot today is Friday.

Still standing in the rain and staring at him, watching me. With his elbows on his knees sitting comfortably in his usual attire he speaks, "you should get out of the rain, otherwise you'll catch a cold."

Taking a breath I walk up the stairs, past him, and go to unlock the front door. I hear his heavy footsteps from behind me.

"How come you didn't drive today?"

I fumble with my keys, "uh, it wouldn't start for this morning."

"When was the last time you refilled with gas?" I unlock the door, letting him walk in first. Closing the door behind us I reply, "the day before yesterday and I haven't driven much since then."

"Hmm, it might be something with the engine or it could be over filled with gas. When you get the chance try it again and if it doesn't work I can have a look at it for you "

"Th-thanks, my books are up stairs in my room." He nods and follows me up the stairs to my bedroom.

"Sorry for the mess, still got some unpacking to do."

I drop my bag down near my bed, walking over to my desk to collect my things. Looking over to Harry he wonders around the room looking around at all the things that decorate my room. Grabbing my books I drop them on my bed waiting for Harry. He is starring at something on my vanity, it doesn't take long for me to realise what he is looking at.

The trinket that held my mothers ashes and a single photo of her on it.

He turns to me, "do you mind?"

"No, no, it's fine." He goes to take the picture of my mother and examines it for himself.

The picture was of a young her, when she was pregnant with me, dad had given me the photo of her when we got her ashes and divided them between the four of us.

"I remember this," he starts, "I mean I was only two at the time but I still remember, her, your mom. She let me feel her stomach, I felt you kicking."

He tears his attention away from the photo to me. I stood staring at him anxiously waiting for him to put down the photo, but he still holding it in his large hand making it the photograph look smaller. I felt a large significance towards that possession, especially that photo.

"She was beautiful... but not as beautiful as you."

"Harry don't you dare say that."

"It's true though--"

"Shut up!" I feel the tear brimming in my eyes, I take a shaky breath, trying to calm myself down, "I-I'm sorry."

"No. I'm sorry." He places the photo back on top of the trinket, "I shouldn't have said anything."

I sniff, quickly wiping the fresh tears away with the back of my jumper.

"I'll be down stairs, come down when your ready then we'll start."

I nod. He leaves the room.

He was right, she was beautiful and always will be, but I was no way near as beautiful as she was. Taking one more breath I gather my books in my arm and walk out.
