The coward

"SORREN, YOU COWARD!"
"I CANT BELIEVE YOU!"
My feet pounded on the hard on the Quartz flooring, my fast steps echoing through the hallways.
Tears stung my eyes, and I continued to run through the maze of endermen.
I am a coward.
I ran away-
Jesse and her friends are working hard to save the world, and I sat in the end, doing nothing but moping with my sorry self..
I had made it out of my fortress, but I kept running.
Jesse and her friends could loose their lives...
I kept running, and running...
'SORREN, YOU COWARD!'
'I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU!"
I can't stand this any longer...
I needed to get away from here, or I'd die from guilt...
But where would I run away to?
I could go to Ivor's laboratory...
He never visits it, anyways...
I found one of the beautiful horses that Jesse and her friends rode on, and my eyes settled on a pitch-black one.
I slowly walked to it, petting its back.
The horse whinnied happily, and I found myself smiling.
You shouldn't be happy.
Jesse and her friends could loose their lives because of you.
You're better off leaving town and never coming back-
After all, nobody will bother to come look for you.
I took a knapsack full of things-
Not bothering to look inside it.
I pulled myself onto the horse, completely forgetting how to ride it.
Do I pull its hair?
How do I make it move?
The horse neighed, as if saying that it wanted to go on another adventure.
I'll call it midnight...
"O-okay, Midnight... Horse... Um.. How do you move?"I asked, sitting awkwardly on its back.
No reply.
Not like I expected one, though.
I tugged softly on its hair, and Midnight perked up a bit, walking forward.
I pulled on its hair a bit harder, and Midnight started to gallop.
I still remember the way we came, and sent Midnight galloping in that direction.

...

The huge deformed walls towered above me, a huge hole in the rock leading to Ivor's laboratory.
I got off Midnight, sore from sitting her for so long.
I stretched, and midnight looked at me expectantly.
I'm guessing she wants a carrot.
I reached in the knapsack I took, taking out a few carrots.
"Here you go, Midnight..." I sighed, tossing the knapsack on the ground.
Midnight reached its head in the bag, crunching on carrots.
I threw the remainder of them on the ground, walking into the laboratory.

...

The barge still seemed to work, my hands clenched onto the sides of it.

"It's fine!"
"I don't think so..."
My brother jumped for the window washer's platform, soaring right over it, falling right to the earth.

His body was in awkward angles, bones sticking out in random places.
He was lying in a pool of blood, my mother sobbing.
"There's no use in calling 911... He's already dead."

The image of his crooked body appeared in my mind.
I quickly pushed it out, my breathing fast and shallow, my hands clawing the edges of the barge.
It bumped against the other side of the chasm, and I scrambled out of it as fast as I could.
I looked up at the old cottage, wooden and made of Quartz...
Ivor did a good job with this place.
I opened the door, warmth enveloping my cold body.
There was a receding fire in the fireplace, smoke gently rising up the chimney.
I looked at the shelves of books.
Looks like Ivor has a lot of time on his hands...
I picked up a book, looking at the worn cover.
I sat down on a fluffy chair, bringing the book near me.

...

So many different types of potions...
Coward.
Your friends haven't even bothered to look for you.
It's true.
I've been here for over two weeks, eating the food that Ivor had here.
I looked at a black potion, glistening in the clear bottle.
All the other potions were harmless- potions of leaping, regeneration, strength... They were all lined on the shelves with labels on them.
Then my eyes tested on the black liquid.
The label said:
Potion of instant death- ingest even a tiny amount, and die instantly.
I picked it up, uncorking the bottle.
It smelled nice... Like lilacs...
I could end it here.
One drink- and I could get the death I deserve.
But painless- because I'm a coward.
I raised it to my lips, about to take a drink-
When I stopped myself.
"M-my.... F-friends..."
I thought about Ivor- however stubborn- he was always there for me..
And Ellie...
She died...

Magnus and Gabriel...
Ellie...
Ivor...

I slumped against the wall, the bottle still clenched in my hands.
I started sobbing, thinking about my cowardice...

"SORREN, YOU COWARD!"
"I CANT BELIEVE YOU!"

"Sorren?"
I lifted my head, seeing my friends.
Magnus, Ivor, and Gabriel..
"Sorren, don't tell me you were planning on killing yourself..." Sighed Ivor, taking the bottle from me.
I continued sobbing, tears falling in my lap.
"I-I didn't... I didn't think... T-that you'd come looking... F-for me..." I cried, burying my face in my hands.
"Sorren... We wouldn't let you run off..." Huffed Magnus.
"Jesse was very disappointed that you left..." Breathed Gabriel, staring off into space.
"I... I-I'm a coward... You shouldn't have come back for me..." I sniffed, wiping my face.
"You are not a coward." Growled Ivor, nudging me with his foot. "If anybody here is one, though, it would me."
He brought the bottle to the shelf, placing it down.
"Without you, Sorren, I don't even know if Jesse and her friends would still be alive. The whole world might have been destroyed without your help."
"B-but I barely... I barely did anything..."
"If Ellie taught me anything..." Sighed Magnus, sounding sad. "It's that everybody is important. No matter their role- because without them, there wouldn't be a bigger picture."
A tear rolled down his face.
"I didn't even get to tell her I loved her..." Huffed Magnus, depressed.
"And you shouldn't join her." Said Ivor, sadly. "None of us should join her until the time is right."
Ivor held out his hand, and I took it, him pulling me up.
"So..." Ivor smiled.
The last time I saw him smile was when we were kids...
"Are any of you up for an adventure?"
