Chapter 6

The next day.

Ember’s POV

I decided to watch everyone train in order to calm my temper.

I was sitting in the window facing the satellite reading one of Charles' many books when I heard some familiar voices. I looked out and saw Charles holding a gun to Erik’s head. Wait, what?

“You’re sure?” Charles said.

“I’m sure.” Erik said.

“Look.” Charles said after waiting a bit before removing the gun. “I’m sorry. I can’t shoot anybody point blank let alone my friend.”

“Come on.” Erik said putting back up to his head. “You know I can deflect it. You’re always telling me I should push myself.”

“If you know you can deflect it you aren’t challenging yourself. What ever happened to the man who was trying to raise a submarine?” When on Earth was that?

“Wha- I cant.” Erik said before taking the gun back. “Something that big I need the situation, the anger.”

“The anger is not enough.”

“It’s gotten the job done all this time.”

“It’s nearly gotten you killed all this time.”

“Hey come here. Let’s try something a little more challenging.”

I was sitting in the kitchen chilling when I heard a loud bang and an alarm. I ran towards the noise and saw a bunker with fire it in. I walked in and strips of fire were everywhere. I stared at them in confusion. Charles was trying to put them out. I extinguished the fires alerting Charles and Alex of my presence.

“That was interesting.” I said. “Please try not to blow up the house.”

I walked out of the bunker waving to Alex before going to the library to read. I grabbed a huge version of Shakespeare’s works and climbed to a high place before getting comfortable and reading.

“Comfy?” I looked down and saw Hank smiling up at me. I smiled back.

“Ja.” I said. I held on to the book and jumped down landing softly on my feet.

“What do you need, Hank?” I said.

“I was wondering if you would let me measure how powerful your mutation is.” I shrugged.

“Sure why not?”

As we were walking to his lab I heard Alex call Hank a bozo and I looked at him annoyed.

“Oh shut it Hulu-hoops.” I said as he frowned. I grabbed Hank and pulled him away.

Hey Ember? Would be so kind and come down to the bunker please? I heard Charles as me in my head.

Sure. I walked down to where the bunker is and opened the door. Alex was putting something on over his chest that had a little circle plate of some sorts.

“Ah, Ember.” I looked over and saw Charles standing next to a mannequin with an X on its stomach. “Thank you very much for joining us. Would you please stand over there?” He said I nodded.

I looked at Alex and his face filled with worry.

“Ember? What’s going on?” He asked.

“Ember’s going to stand in for Hank.” Alex’s eyes widened.

“Are you serious?!” Alex yelled furious.

“Don't worry, Alex. Your power can't hurt me. I'll be fine, trust me.”

He looked unsure but decided to go through with it. He sent a blast towards the middle and I jumped out of the way, just to be safe. I looked back at the dummy to see it on fire.

“Ember? Are you ok?” I heard Alex yell. I jumped up and ran towards him. “You did it!” I said hugging him. He hugged me back tightly as though he was worried I would die. I pulled back and stared at him. He looked so worried.

“I’m sorry for scaring you.” I said placing my hand on his cheek. He closed his eyes I leaned up and gently kissed him. It was a quick soft kiss. I pulled away only to be pulled right back. Alex kissed me sweetly, making me feel loved. We broke apart and then just sat on the floor with me safely between his legs with his arms wrapped around me. I only then noticed that Charles had left.

“I like you Alex.” I whispered quietly. I felt his arms tighten and him kiss my head.

“I like you too.” He replied making me smile.

Ember could you please go train? We need to work. I heard Charles say in my mind. I sighed.

“I have to go train now.” I said sitting up. I turned to look at Alex.

“I’ll see you later.” I said giving him a gentle kiss on the lips. He smiled letting me go.

“Later.” He said. I stood up and walked out.

I got changed into a sports bra and grey sweats and walked out to the forest. When I was almost to my training spot I felt someone grab me. I tried to scream but the scenery-changing cut off my scream. I was now in what appeared to be a room in a submarine. I looked up at my captor and saw that it was Azazel. He quickly tied me up and sat me on the couch.

“Ah Ember. So nice of you to join us.” My heart stopped. I looked up to see the man that had caused me so much misery.

“Shaw.”

Alex’s POV
I walked around with a slight smile on my face. I had told Ember how I felt and we had kissed. I was upstairs with everyone else when a scream broke through the silence. It was cut short though for some reason but we all knew it was Ember.
“Ember!” I yelled. We all ran outside and towards Ember’s training ground. On the way there I found her knives. She never went anywhere without them.
“Ember!” I heard Erik yelling.
“Where is she?” He yelled coming over to us.
“Shaw got her.” I heard Charles say. We turned and saw him holding a piece of fabric.
“God damn it!” Erik yelled furious. Raven was crying and Charles was comforting her.
