"My brother is visiting this weekend. No way my mum is letting me out."

"Then let me come to you," Matthew rolls his eyes as if it'll be the easiest thing to do. "I would," he stares at his feet while waiting for Bethany to continue. "But my mum won't let me invite somebody else over." Matt sighs and runs his fingers through his hair again. "She won't let me go to my room while he's over either."

"Does your mother allow you to even breathe?" Bethany sighs at Matthews immaturity. "College will be good." He then says. "We'll somehow become roommates, and... It's all going to be perfect. Even more perfect after college. Being able to take your own decisions and not having someone rule over you."

Bethany isn't smiling like Matthew is. When he sees, he stops smiling too. "Aren't you excited?"  He looks sadly at Bethany. "That's not it," she replies.

"Don't you want to live with me? I promise I won't smoke inside." Bethany shakes her head. "I'm not sure we'll go to the same college," she answers truthfully.

Matthew would be pretty good in school, if he actually gave a damn. If he tried he'd be getting top grades, but because he ditches a lot, argues with the teachers and don't ever make his homework on due, he is called one of the dumbest kids in school.

Bethany does her homework. She's a kind person, and she's befriended lots of the teachers. She rarely has any sick days. She's not one of the top A+ students, but she does her best, which is above the average, and her grades are only getting better.

"I'll do better in school, Beth." Matthews eyes show sorrow. He still has hope for Bethany to agree and show her excitement for their futures.

"Bethany please, I promise to do my best on everything."

"Matty, I don't choose our futures. Nor our colleges. Sadly." Bethany seems to start sharing the sadness in her eyes. Matthew hopes it isn't because of him.

"Okay. Well just answer my question." Bethany nods at Matthew. "Do you want to still know me in the future?" She nods again.

"I don't know what the future will bring, but I hope it keeps us together."
