Just friends (Steve)

It really wasn't a secret that you liked Steve a lot. Everyone knew it except Steve. He may or may not have liked you too. Of course you won't get that cliche fairytale ending.

Steve came to your house to hang out. "So how's life?" Steve turned to you. "Pretty good, what about you?" "It's alright." He shrugged. You continued to watch TV and ate some ice cream until you went over to the Curtis house.
"Hey, peanut butter and jelly." Steve grinned. Steve glared at him. "We're not a thing Two-Fuck." Two-bit grunted after he got slapped. You felt crushed inside. You really wanted to be a thing. Steve went over to play cards and he watched you when you weren't looking. He wanted the same thing as you but didn't know how to tell you. He finally got the courage when he asked Soda for advice. He walked up to you and asked you. "Hey,Y/N. look I really like you a lot and it would mean so much to me if we could just try this?" He fidgeted nervously. You couldn't believe that just happened. "Yea, Steve I've actually wanted this for so long." You smiled. The gang looked happy also.

You went on your first date to the drive in a week later. You had a great time and you love Steve. You felt like you were in some kind of heaven because you're finally where you wanna be. "Steve I had a lot of fun. Thank you." You held his hand as you walked home. "Anything for you my love." He winked. You giggled. "Hey, I was wondering, maybe you wanna be my girlfriend." He said the last part quieter. "What makes you think I'd say no?" He looked up and smiled like a little boy.

He walked you home and kissed you passionately. One that you will never forget.
You fell asleep dreaming of that reality daydream. The next morning you got a text saying "Hey, beautiful. ;)" You smiled at the name of your new lover. "Hey, handsome ;)" It was his turn to smile.

You met up at the Dingo and kissed before going in. "I can't believe I got you." You looked him in the eye. "I should be saying that to you." He reached across and grabbed your hand. You ordered a milkshake and tried all of those love cliches. You finished the milk shake and got in his car and listened to music on the way home.
The whole gang thought you two were the perfect couple.  He would always have his arm around you showed you off to the gang. He loved you and you loved him.

6 months later a lot had changed since then. You were going strong and there 24/7. The day everything fell apart, you walked to an empty house. Steve had given you a promise on the 5th month of your relationship. You stared at it and twisted it around your finger. You decided to call Steve. He picked up on the 3rd ring. "Hello?" "Hey, Steve I just wanted to ask you what happened to us?" He paused. "I don't know. I think we jumped in too fast. We should've slowed down." You agreed. "Do you think we were better the way we were before?"
You dared asked heart racing at the wait for the answer. He sighed. "Yeah, I think you're right. Maybe we should just go back to those people. 2 people without their heads in the clouds in love. I want you to know that I will always love you Y/N. I won't forget what we had but it's time to leave this behind. I love you Y/N but I think we should be just friends." You nodded with tears in your eyes. "Yeah, just friends." "I'll see you around, Y/N." You hung up and stared at the wall thinking this over in your mind. You knew you and Steve would always still want what you once had but you knew you would find your way. This is who you guys are Just friends. And that was ok. Perfect.
