His still pale lips creaked into a crooked smile. I couldn't help the tears that streamed down my face.
"I'm back," he croaked. His face suddenly turned serious. " I heard everything when I was in the coma."
My heart stopped. I felt so bad for him because he must of heard that Darcy, Mason and Bonnie were planning to escape without him. I leaned forward and hugged him tightly. His weak hands wrapped around me, and I sat on his bed finally getting what I longed for. A warm hug. I looked up at his glistening eyes. Leaning forward I planted a kiss on his pale lips, a shiver going down my spine as our lips connected. When we parted, he was the first to speak.
"What was it that you said you wanted to tell me?"
I smiled. "I love you Aaron."
"I love-" before Aaron could finish, Bonnie, Mason and Darcy burst into the room the look of suprise filled their faces when they saw Aaron awake.
"Aaron your awake," breathed out Bonnie.
"Best timing dude," Mason said. " We need to leave now. I heard Kaylene talking to some security guards, and she was saying that she is going to end us tonight." Aaron sat up abruptly and slumped back in his bed.
"Take it easy dude, you just woke up from a coma," Darcy said coming around.
We got Aaron out of bed, and he slumped his arm around me for support. He still looked a bit pale. I noticed the gash from the bullet wound had healed up pretty well. Darcy and Bonnie explained the plan.
"Use this if you need to," Mason said coming back into the room with guns that were stashed in his pockets. I held the gun with shaking hands.
"Don't worry," whispered Aaron next to me. I smiled back. Mason smiled at us.
"I'll walk out this door first okay?"
We all nodded in agreement.
Without looking back, Mason walked out of the room his head held high with confidence. Then Bonnie and Darcy walked out. I took a deep breath, grabbed onto Aaron's hand, and we walked out, trying to act casual in front of all the nurses. Aaron kept his head down so he wouldn't be noticed. We walked out of the hospital wing without drama, and started to go down hallways. I couldn't help but notice that Bonnie and Mason were standing close to each other, but what hit me was that their fingers were loosly intwined. How could I not notice that they liked each other before?
My thoughts were interrupted when we arrived at a familiar staircase. I remember running down these exact stairs.
"Let's go," urged Darcy who already started to descend the stairs. I stopped in my tracks when I heard shouts behind me. Two security guards pushed past the people in the hallway, their glares so cold it sent shivers down my spine. With that, I helped Aaron descend the stairs as quick as we could. My breaths turned uneven as the shouts started to get louder with every level we crossed.
"Quick!!" Yelled out Darcy. We ran to the big glass doors that lay ahead of us. The sun shone bright on the newly paved concrete.
BANG!! BANG!!!
Bullets wizzed past our heads narrowly missing us. Darcy slammed open the doors ahead, and we stepped out. Bullets shattered the glass that cut at our legs. We kept running, and stopped to a halt at the main gates.
We were trapped.
A small groan escaped my throat as I knew this all was not over yet. We turned to the guards who approached, holding pistols in their hands.
"STOP RIGHT THERE!" Bellowed one of the guards. Mason and Darcy pulled out their own guns. Without hesitation, Darcy pulled the trigger hitting the guard right in the stomach. He fell to the floor a scream escaping his pale lips. The other guard stood dumbfounded for a moment, but turned back to Darcy. Darcy pulled the trigger a second time.
Except there were two gunshots.
Two bodies fell to the floor.
Darcy's blood stained the concrete rapidly, he held his shaking hand to his upper stomach.
I ran to him and knelt down next to him.
The eyes that once shone like stars, became nothing but cold. But now when I look at him, he looked scared and peaceful at the same time.
"Carmen," he coughed. " I am so sorry... I didn't want to kill...you... Emma made.. me do it," he managed to say. " Im so sorry."
My blood run cold as I stared at him.
" I forgive you Darcy," I said back.
He smiled a real, and relieved smile.
"Go, be free. Enjoy the world and maybe we will see each other again," he adressed to everyone before closing his eyes peacefully. I noticed a small smile still plastered on his pale, happy face.
