"I messed up, Mom," Hanamiya said that night.

Mikasa looked up from her plate of food. "Hm? With what?"

"[Last Name]... I said something that I shouldn't of said."

She put down her chopsticks, humming in thought. "Ah, Makoto. You do that a lot, don't you?"

He frowned, shoving food in his mouth angrily. "Never mind."

"No, no, no. I'm sorry, Makoto," Mikasa said, shaking her head, "Why don't you apologize and make it up to her?"

"How do I do that?"

"Well," she gave him a weird look, "you say 'I'm sorry.' I thought you were smarter than that."

Hanamiya gave her a blank look, then rolled his eyes. "I wasn't talking about that, Mom."

"How do you make it up to her? Why don't you take her to that fair that's in town? You can make it up to her, and you can do something besides school and basketball."

He sighed, thinking about it. "I guess it could work."

Mikasa smiled, happy that she set up a "date" between the two.
