Grayson's POV

Thursday mornings are the worst. You know that feeling where it's almost the weekend. It's so close,  but not quite there get. There's nothing to motivate me to wake up and get out of bed anymore.

That's how it used to be anyway.

Since Courtney arrived I've been smiling a lot more than I used to, which gives me a more positive vibe, and one which my whole family has noticed.

My sister Cameron left for college a few months ago and she's back for a little while now. She used to always give me a sympathetic smile, but now I can laugh with her the way we used to when we were kids.

I don't know why Courtney's had such a positive effect on me, after all nothing's happened yet really.

I think it's that for the first time ever really, I've felt a sense of hope. A sense that something good is going to happen. A sense that hings are finally changing.

I finally drag myself out of bed and pull on my black skinny jeans, a grey Adidas sweatshirt and black and white vans. (an outfit Courtney picked out.)

I felt really confident so put a little gel in my hair accenting my slight blonde hilights in the front of my hair. I then walked into Ethan's room. He was also wearing an outfit carefully chosen by Courtney herself. He wore light blue ripped jeans and a Nike jacket. We both looked quite different and I loved it.

"You ready to go?" I asked my brother.
"Yeah just finishing my hair..." which he had been blow drying to perfection for about 30 minutes now, oblivious to the fact that it will just mess up again as soon as we leave the house. Oh well, I'll let him have his moment of confidence too.

The walk to school was long and boring so I talked to Ethan about things going on in our lives.

We talked about sports for like 5 minutes until we saw the Fiat 500 drive past. She slowed down to our speed so we could listen and jam to Fetty Wap with her, as we were laughing and singing, another car came up and beeped the horn at her so she had to leave.

The corridors were packed and as I walked through I received many stares. I didn't often make this much effort for school, but if I was going to receive this much attention, I think I just might....

I saw Millie Davies - that girl that Courtney hangs out with, and she smiled at me, not a sympathetic smile which I sometimes receive, not a sarcastic smile, which I receive 24/7, but a genuine friendly smile. This really confused me.

I remember her being quite close with Ethan at one point, and while nothing dramatic ever happened, it just fizzled out. Something which happens with so many new people, but somehow, I don't see it happening with Courtney.

During math period 4, I usually get to talk to Courtney because no one really cares, plus we sit at the back. However today, my new look had drawn attention to me, so we didn't say much. The only thing she said to me other than "hey", was a crumpled up piece of paper with a not on it. It read:

'Sorry I didn't text you last night, my mum wanted me to do loads of housework. Can I come over later - I have a surprise... ;)'

I looked at her suspiciously - what on earth could it be? She shook her head no, signalling that she, being the stubborn girl she is, wasn't going to tell me now, so I wrote a quick reply:

'Aha it's fine, funnily enough I survived a whole night without talking to you. It's fine, you and your 'surprise' can come over later. It better not be anything that could be used as a prank - if it is can we use it to prank Ethan instead? :)'

She read it and rolled her eyes. She scribbled a note, still keeping her beautiful handwriting pristine (how she does that I'll never know) and handed it back to me.

'No it's not a prank (although we should totally do that right?! And film it ;)) just trust me I think you'll like it ;)'

Just as I was about to write a reply, I heard a booming voice saying "COURTNEY, GRAYSON?! Is that a note I see there?!". I was just about to say something, although I don't know what, when I get interrupted.

"No sorry sir these are just my extra notes, I hope you don't mind, I've been making a folder with some revision notes, especially on things I don't understand. This one says 'area of a circle = Pi x r squared and the perimeter is diameter times pi' is that correct sir?"

I was astonished as to how that lie came so easily out of her mouth. And when she read the 'revision notes', it was as though she was reading it straight from the paper, her eyes wandering across the lines and everything. I loved how she did that. I love how she was able to think of that in a split second. I think the batting of her eyelashes helped as well, it works on me. She can get anything she wants in one simple manoeuvre - I wish I could do that.

"No you're fine Courtney, and I'm pleased to see you taking such interest in this class! Well done."

This tactic worked because it 1) impressed the teacher, and 2) it impressed the whole class because they knew damn well what she was really doing, which made her look cool.... other than the fact she was passing a note to me...

~~ skip to end of day ~~

When I arrived home with Ethan, I got ready for Courtney coming over. I didn't know exactly what time she was getting here but I knew it was soon. I put some more gel in my hair, but not too much to make it go crusty (great word).

When I heard the doorbell go I ran to answer it, beating Ethan. I told him what was going on on the way home from school.

I was surprised to see not only Courtney at the door, but Millie as well.

"Hey urm... Courts can I talk to you for a second?" I asked, not caring that it would leave a socially awkward Ethan with his former friend.

"ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!" I shout-whispered at her. "What are you doing?!"
"Okay Gray, calm down, let me explain..."
