Hopeful fighter

CHAPTER 7

At the end of the practice, the coaches are really satisfied and arrange another meeting with the varsity team. As soon as the girls say good-bye, Hope approaches Abby.

H-S:" Hey Abby, Jill wants to talk to you"

A:" Am I in trouble?" (worried)

H-S:" No ahah she just wants to talk to you"

A:" Can... can... can you please come with me?"

H-S:" Sure kiddo"

Abby and her mother enter Jill Ellis's studio.

J-E:" Hello Abigail, how are you feeling?"

A:" Ehm... Hi! I'm really happy and satisfied, I had lots of fun today and I learnt lots of new things. Thank you, by the way, for this amazing opportunity"

J-E:" I saw you playing today and you're really talented. When I looked at you, your moves reminded me of Hope's. You have a future in the national team kid, and I want to be able to assure you a spot in this awesome team. I need to call your parents and ask their permission"

A:" Please, don't. I ran away last night because they didn't want me to come here. My adoptive parents would hurt if they knew I was here"

H-S:" Do you think it would be good if you stayed with me, hum, I mean with us for a while? It's not safe for you to stay with them"

J-E:" What do you think Abby? Would you like to stay here with Hope, or better with your birth mother?"

A:" How do you know that she's my birth mother?" (concerned)

J-E:" You look a lot alike. Plus, I spoke with your coach days ago and she told me how to manage this weird situation, but I can tell that things are going well between you two"

A:" It's kinda weird but I know that I feel safe with Hope by my side and since I have nowhere to go, I want to stay here with her."

J-E:" Sounds awesome to me. Now, I know you want to keep it secret but I'm pretty sure the others already know that you two are related. Why don't you guys tell them the truth? It would be a great start"

H-S, A:" We agree" (laughing)

The three of them walk back to the hotel where they find the whole team in the meeting room. Abby is really scared and worried and she wonders if the rest of the team will accept her. She tenses up and she feels as she's about to cry but Hope gently pulls her into a hug and reassures her daughter. They sit down and Jill Ellis starts the meeting.

J-E:" Girls, I feel like we're going to do great things and I'm happy about all the friendships and the relationships that have been recently established. Now, I want you to welcome this little girl here. Her name is Abigail, but you already know that, and she's going to train with us because she's very talented and I feel like she's going to do great things in her future. She's going to live here with us because she's been having a rough situation with her adoptive family and I want you ladies to accept her into this amazing team"

J-J:" You're going to be our little sister Abby!" (smiling)

A-M:" Heck yeah, and you can be Carli's or Abby's or Hope's daughter"

Abby tenses up once again but Hope squeezes her hand.

H-S:" Actually guys there's something really important I need to tell you"

T-H:" Hum, sure go ahead"

H-S:" Okay so I want you girls to accept Abby as a friend or a sister or whatever but... I mostly need you to accept her as my... daughter"

The team starts cheering up

A:" What the heck is going on here?"

M-R:" So, I know this might sound crazy but we already knew there was some sort of relationship between you two and don't worry Abby, if you don't like being with your mother you can always come with me AKA Best aunt ever" (laughing)

H-S:" Oh shut up, Pinoe. Don't worry Abby, you're safe here with us"

A-H:" Awe, Hope is feeling like mama-bear. This is cute"

Everybody laughs and Abby pulls her mother into a hug, followed by "awe", "so cute", "cuties".

A:" Thanks guys, I appreciate this. It's been a tough week for me but right now I feel like staying here will be good for me and will, yeah, I don't know, maybe be good to improve the relationship with my mom, hum I mean with Hope"

J-E:" Alright Abigail. So everyone already has a roommate but you can stay with your mom and Carli Lloyd. How does this sound?"

A:" Sounds awesome, thanks coach!"
