Love, love, love this one. LOVE IT!!! It had literally EVERYTHING I love about Maas: secrets, cranky royals, infighting, ROMANCEx2, magic, and an OMG plot twist at the end.

So many bombs were dropped! Where do I start?!?

Well, let's begin at the beginning, shall we? And in order to do that I have to travel back in time to book 2, Crown of Midnight

Well, let's begin at the beginning, shall we? And in order to do that I have to travel back in time to book 2, Crown of Midnight. I was a freaking mess after that one. I shipped Chaolena so hard. I just loved him with her, I felt like his quiet loyalty was so endearing. I didn't have the same reaction Celaena did over Nehmas death. I truly felt like Chaol was caught up in something so big that he couldn't have saved her. I forgave him immediately knowing that his heart was pure, even if his actions were a mess.

But she left and was devastated and went to Wendlyn. Then there was Rowan. It took me a long time to let go of the idea she might forgive Chaol and work things out. Most of the book actually. But I was sold when Rowan flipped out over her scars, and then there was no looking back.

With this story, I had two theories. First that our two main characters would indeed rally an army to come to Aelin's side in battle. This of course came true, not as the court diplomacy of Chaol or Nesryn convinced the kaghan, but the debt owed to Yrene that he save her people.

Second, I expected a deepening of the Nesryn/Chaol relationship. I figured the whole thing would bring them closer. But it of course did the opposite, finding both of them new love interests.

Sartaq is just...wow. I loved him immediately and thought he was the best of that crazy competitive family. And he proved it. When he took her on his ruk, when he took her to the clan, 3 weeks long with only minutes to decide... it was the longest slow burn I've ever read.

The Fell, with those hideous spiders...when Sartaq knew he was done for, then confessed that he had loved her the moment he saw her and disappeared as if he had never existed, my heart broke. That was honestly the most beautiful and awful sentence I have ever read.
I cried, a lot. I bawled, I put the book (er...phone- I got the e-book) down and put my face in my hands. No it couldn't end like that for them!! And thank goodness it didn't! Nesryn knew what to do with Valg spider scum...flaming arrows.

I loved that little clan and can't wait to read about them in the next installment.

But then there was the slowest burn...Chaol and Yrene. I KNEW it of course the moment she set eyes on him. The hatred they both carried was bound to melt away into something else. I was dying until he finally kissed her. But our Queen Maas had to go and make it as dramatic as possible. I mean, THATS when the man finally stood, after trying all day long. And then chased her around the room as she led him on. I was relieved when he finally cornered her and kissed the hell out of her.

That party in the desert though. Yes to all of their shenanigans. And the culmination of their attraction: yes times a hundred! Perfect. What I didn't like so much was his distance when they returned. But I'm glad that didn't get dragged out for long.

And can I say, Chaol putting himself in harms way for her...not a surprise based on both his character and our fearless author. But can we refrain from basically killing the main characters just to miraculously bring them back with some sort of bargain or price? Been done, less death thank you.

My heart can't take it!

I can't even talk about the Maeve thing. She just pisses me off and I honestly can't wait to read when she gets her head taken off. Yes please. Someone needs to freaking get that job done, stat!

So now two are married (love!!) and two engaged (more love!!!) and on to the next adventure. Let the battle begin. And I call it that Yren will heal Aelin. That price may come into play as well.

What about you? Love or meh? Where you rooting for the ships or could you care less? What about that pissy Hasan? She was so unpredictable! And Duva being the Valg?!? I was sure that something was going on with the kaghan's wife being absent the w...
