Darkness.

Silence.

Anticipation.

The earthy scent of mud, leaves, and the sour smell of rotting things filled her lungs. Little beetles twitched their antennae in her ears, whispering. Selling their sweet secrets as they dance up her arms. This time she couldn't move. Couldn't speak as she laid prone on the spongy undergrowth.

The black fox peered at her from a crouch on the forest floor, it's ancient green eyes reflecting non-existent light. It delicately placed a soft yet firm paw on her chest and leaned toward her face. The dry musky air hummed with restrained power and a sharp scent of ozone permeated the space between them.
The fox smiled, snapping its teeth.

'Remember me, child.'

'.... Remember me'
