It was the most defining night of my life.
I've sang on a stage like this before
but it felt nerve wrecking.
Like I was about to let out a long breath after being oppressed into the dark waters of despair.
Gripping the slippery silver microphone in my clammy hands.
Determined steps.
I stood center stage alone in bold blackness.
Letting all the cheers and voices fade,
All the eyes watching me extinguished.
Hearing my heartbeat in my ears.
I fluttered my eyes closed, listening to the beat of the music.
I let myself be revealed in the only
way I knew how to.
Wearing heartbreak on my sleeve.
The words of my heart flowing
out in a song.
I was finally breathing after being
submerged into the water,
Loosing your hold.
The music becoming my anchor,
I knew everything would be fine.
