"Harvey Dent is being transported as we speak. Everyone here knows the plan and is expected to execute it flawlessly, or, well, you can imagine what will happen," you stated sharply.
"Yes, Ma'am," the henchmen chorused from behind their masks.
The selected goons hopped up in the semi outside of the warehouse with their guns while Vincent and Felix waited by your car. You zipped up your jacket as you made your way over to one of the ammunition rooms where Joker was finishing packing extra weapons in his bag.
"Ready to go?" you said.
Joker turned around as he chuckled. "Of course. I've been ready."
"Good to hear," you responded sarcastically, walking over and straighting his tie and lapels. "Be safe for me."
Joker pushed his bag aside on his shoulder and grabbed you around the hips to anchor you to him. "You too," he muttered.
You tucked your arms under his and stood on your toes to connect your lips with his painted ones. You smirked slightly into it as it continued on for a while. It wasn't heated, just steady and slow. It was enjoying this interaction before parting your separate ways for a few hours--the longest you would be apart in months.
You walked out to the vehicles together, and with a fleeting look, you got in your car with Vincent and Felix while Joker went with his guys. You drove through the night on the backroad of the city that wasn't closed off because of the transportation of "Batman". You paid off one of the cops to let you through and parked in between two buildings.
"Vincent, you're with me. Felix, take the other building," you directed, checking to make sure your walkie talkie and laptop were in your bag.
"You got it, Boss," Felix said with an excited grin and holding his equipment.
You could hear the helicopter and sirens only a couple blocks away from your location, and you knew the party was starting. Felix ran off to get in position while you went with Vincent up the building and onto the metal fire escape. You put your laptop on the ledge and connected to the camera that Charlie was wearing on a necklace for you to watch the chaos.
You watched with bated breath as Joker crouched and shot the police van from the moving semi with a shotgun. The picture was a bit blurry, but you could make out the events. Joker handed the gun to someone, then Todd gave him the bazooka, which he shot twice, but the second was intercepted by Batman.
The chase continued as the semi halted to a stop and Joker jumped out with one of the goons and went to sit in the front. Joker drove the semi, following the GPD van out of the tunnel and onto the street.
"They're coming, get set," you ordered to Vincent and Felix as you shut your laptop and stuffed it in your bag.
The two men aimed their hooks and you could hear the helicopter and sirens approaching.
"Rack 'em up, rack 'em up," Joker said through the walkie talkie.
You clicked the button with a smile. "Roger that."
Felix and Vincent shot the hooks across the building and the helicopter tripped over the wires, then spun out of control and crashed to the street. You had a perfect view of everything happening from your vantage point, including Batman making his appearance in front of the semi.
Your eyes widened as Batman shot his device to the bumper of the semi, then wrapped them around the tires. Your stomach lurched as the semi immediately flipped over.
"J!" you yelped instinctively, ready to run and get him out of the wreckage.
"Don't," Vincent said sternly. "He's fine."
You put your hands on the railing and tightened them as you saw Joker crawl from the broken window unharmed and with a machine gun in his hand. A tsunami of relief hit you and you ended up laughing a little when he momentarily tripped before shooting at Batman.
Batman raced toward Joker as Joker animalistically taunted him, but Batman swerved around him and slammed into the overturned semi. Joker rushed over and bent down to take off Batman's mask with a knife on his hand, but was shoved on his back by none other than Gordon.
You took out your walkie talkie and connected to all the henchmen. "Complete. Head back to your assigned positions."
You descended the fire escape and took one last look at Joker as he was thrown into another police van. You peeked around the corner and, of course, locked eyes with him. You jokingly blew a kiss at him and he subtly winked in return. That gave you enough closure to move on to the next phase with Vincent, Felix, and Charlie.
The four of you got in your car and drove to where you would be dropping off Charlie and Felix.
"Harvey Dent should be waiting for you when you arrive, so all you do is set up the explosives and timer. He's going to be passed out, so no need for any incessant pleaing," you said.
"Sucks that one of them is going to die; they're both hot as hell," Felix complained.
"Want to place bets?" Charlie asked.
"Hundred bucks says it's Dawes," you chimed in knowingly.
"I think it'll be Dent. Batman wouldn't let a young woman die," Vincent said.
"We'll see," you responded, stopping the car. "Good luck."
"See you," Felix and Charlie said, exiting the vehicle with their bags.
You sped up to get to the other warehouse on time, and you did. You and Vincent got out and hauled the explosives up to the second floor of the warehouse where you unexpectedly saw Rachel Dawes awake but tied to the chair in the middle of the room.
"Hello, Miss Dawes," you greeted. "Or is it Mrs. Dent? Well, either way, it won't be."
"Who are you?" she asked, on the verge of tears.
You set your bag on top of one of the tins of gasoline and gestured for Vincent to start without you as you walked over to stand in front of Rachel.
"I work with The Joker and he works for us," you answered nonchalantly as if over a cup of tea.
"So, you're The Joker's toy or something?" she questioned with a dash of snarkiness.
You lowered your voice with the knowledge of your complete control in the situation. "If we put it in those terms, he would definitely be my toy, if you know what I mean," you hinted playfully.
"You're both lunatics," Rachel spat.
You saw Vincent's head snap over to your direction and waved him off. Crossing your arms, you leaned against the tin can and sighed loudly.
"Lunatics?" you mocked. "I'm not crazy; I have a degree in psychology and pharmaceuticals from Harvard medical school." You shrugged. "The thing is, everyone has the maniac part of them, I've learned, but only some are willing to act on it. The Joker and I--we act on that part, not because we're insane, we're just uncaring of society's views on who we should be."
Rachel was shocked by your words and you went back to setting up the explosives with Vincent.
"You or Harvey Dent will be dead by the end of the hour, I promise you. Your friends must choose who lives," you revealed cryptically.
"Why?" she pleaded.
You ignored her and set the timer on the clock for one hour. On the way out of the room, you shut off the lights to leave her in the kind of darkness some had felt their entire lives.
