So, I've come up with an idea to use the hauling trip from this most recent season to move the story along. It is obviously going to be changed around to accommodate my book, but I hope you like my version of it :)

Bird spent most of the next few weeks keeping herself busy around camp. The family was getting ready for the winter that was coming a lot quicker than they were expecting. Wood was to be chopped. Food was to be hunted and gathered. The whole camp needed to be prepared.

Though she had many things to do, she couldn't help but constantly think about what had happened with Marigold. Would her phone number work? When would they even get to town next?

On top of getting ready for the coming winter, her family was doing their own things when they had free time. Matt and Lorelei were trying to get all their work done while dealing with a 6 month old child. Bam and Addie were newlyweds who were spending more time in the cabin than doing work. Gabe was following Belle around making sure she didn't hurt herself during her pregnancy and waiting on her hand and foot. Noah and Angel were working on some kind of project. Who knew what it was this time. And of course there was Bear, continuing on with his "extreme" ways, trying to teach Danni how to be his "extreme Princess". Now that Rain was a teenager, she was keeping to herself and becoming more independent. Finally there was Ma and Da. They were taking some time alone to themselves. They never got time alone anymore.

"Ugh," Bird sighed and plopped down on one of the benches around the fire pit.

She looked into the fire pit, surprised to see it not lit. It usually was going almost 24 hours of the day. But now that Brown Town was expanding and the people in the family were off in families of their own, it was different. She was starting to feel the loneliness. She wasn't going to lie, she wanted someone to share her time with. And if that person was Marigold, that would be wonderful. That's why she wanted to get to town and call her as soon as possible. Right now though it didn't look like that was going to happen anytime soon.

"Did I just hear a dramatic sigh?" a voice spoke up behind her.

Bird turned around to find Danni walking toward her. She sat down beside the younger girl and smiled.

"What was the dramatic sigh for?" she asked.

She didn't know what to tell Danni. The only person that knew about the real Marigold situation was Lorelei. And Bird really wasn't ready to tell anyone else. For now she could be vague.

"I want to go to town. I have some things I need to do. Besides, I'm getting a little tired of this work we've been doing. It would be nice to have a break," she explained.

"You heard what your dad said. He wants to try to start going to town as little as possible. He wants to spend more time out here in Brown Town," Danni said.

"I know...and I'm okay with that. I don't like going to Hoonah too much. It's just that I have some things I need to deal with."

Danni raised her eyebrows. She was curious, but she didn't ask. When the girl wanted to reveal her business, she would.

"Hey guys!" Billy's voice interrupted their conversation as it echoed through camp.

Within minutes everybody was gathered around the same fire pit that Bird was sitting at with Danni. They faced Billy who was standing on the top step of the porch with Ami by his side.

"You may have seen that Paul came for a visit this afternoon," he spoke.

Everybody voiced their reply.

"Well, we've struck a deal with him. We have two jobs to do for him and if we are successful, we'll be able to keep the skiff he gave us to use," he explained to the family.

"Hoorah!" Matt cheered.

"But it's not going to be easy, is it Billy?" Ami asked, looking at him with a small sense of disapproval in her eyes.

"No, it's not. We've got to make a trip out to Port Alexander to deliver some sewer tanks and then we're going to Prince of Wales –"

He was cut off by a rush of voices. The Brown children were excited about going to Prince of Wales. They had spent much of their childhood there and they missed it.

"Hey, hey, quiet down," he told his children. "Y'all know that this time of year the weather is unpredictable and we could easily be going out into something extremely dangerous."

"And we all remember what happened last time we were out in the waters by Prince of Wales," Ami said. "We lost our boat."

"Let's not think about that," Billy said. "Anyways, we'll be going to Thorne Bay on POW to tow a float plane back for a guy so he can do some repairs on it. I will tell you right now, we're not going to be bringing everybody with us. That's too many of us put in danger and instead of asking Kenny to watch the cow, chickens and Cuppy, we can have the rest of the family do that. For now, we need to prepare and get ready to departure in two days. Your mother and I are going to look at the map and figure out our route."

"I'll help Da," Bird said.

"Me too," Matt said.

Bear tagged along as well and they all entered the house, gathering around the table. They looked over the map, discussing the trip.

"It's been a while since we've had this kind of adventure," Billy said. "I'll admit, it's the wrong time of year, but if we can complete this, that skiff is ours."

"Which is awesome," Matt voiced his opinion. "Are we going to be able to anchor down for a day or so? My favorite fishing spot is out there."

"We'll see how it goes. Remember, you'll have a wife and child waiting back here for you," Ami answered him.

"Damn, that's right, they aren't coming," he huffed.

"Matthew..."

"Sorry Ma," he apologized for his language.

"It'd be cool to go out and do a hunt just like we did when we were younger," Bird spoke up. She thought back to her younger years and couldn't help but smile.

"That would be a good way to get some meat for the winter," Ami said, looking at Billy.

"Yes, it would. But we will have to see how the trip goes, like your mother said. Now why don't y'all go figure out who is staying and who is going. We need to be ready when it's time to go."

"Sir yes sir!" Bear exclaimed and jumped up from his seat, running out the door.

Bird laughed at her brother. She couldn't believe that Danielle kept up with that kid. Just thinking about the two of them together made her think once more of her non-existent love life. Then she shook it off. Right now she needed to focus on the upcoming hauling trip and the fact that she was going back to the place that she had spent her childhood. She needed to enjoy herself for once. Maybe she'd even get the chance to call Marigold while they were picking up the sewer tanks in town. Who knew what could happen.
