Chapter 9

"It's a relic."

I furrowed my brows, "A relic," I stated, unconvinced.

"What's a relic?" Malia asked.

"An object with a fixed association to the past," Lydia explained."Jake's ID was left behind after he was taken. And Gwen found her sister's bracelet on her bedroom floor.

"How can someone be erased, and still leave something behind?" Malia asked.

"A conservation of mass," Lydia said.

Malia looked to me, "Still confused," she finished for me.

I nodded, "Yeah, so we all have no clue what the hell a conservation mass is... And I know everything."

"Apparently not," Scott muttered under his breath.

I punched him, "Shut up, Scott."

"A conservation mass is the total of any isolated system remaining constant," Lydia further explained

"So even the Ghost Riders have a weakness," Scott nodded.

"A relic would be proof that Stiles existed," Malia put together, taking Jake's ID from Lydia's hands.

"And maybe we can bring him back," Scott said.

I sighed, "Look, guys, I know you're all hype about this Stiles guy, but..." I shook my head. "What would it do to bring him back? Like, what would it prove?"

Scott gave me a confused look and Lydia's face fell, "You don't want to bring back Stiles?" She asked, seemingly betrayed.
