Sneaking Out

6 1 3

One time.
One time

I snuck out of the house.
One time
was enough for me.

Fred and Bob

they made me go out
with them
in the dark,
in the night.
I didn't want to go.
Really, I didn't.
But, I didn't want to look

jumpier
than I normally am.
So, I went out.
Snuck out the window
and crawled down the
decorative fence my
mother keeps on the front porch.
Entwined in vines,
we should've gotten rid of it ages ago.
But, we
can't quite
let go of it just yet.

I met up with them
on Birmingham Road.
Strange place to meet up.
Especially since
it's so close to
Hagley
Woods.
They walked on
and
on
and

on
for a g e s.

I stopped
for a moment.
Swearing that I saw something
in the corner of
my eye.
Bob and Fred
walked on.
Pretending that they didn't notice me stopping.
I stand very
very
still.
I be very
very
quiet.
And I watch.
I watch a figure
in the dark
move its hand
p
  u
and
d
   o
     w
         n
looking as if
they're writing
something.
He finishes

and runs off
silent
like the
night.
