8 - Sweet Love and Sexy Chameleons

"Then what happened?" 

"Well I–"

"Let me guess! You two had a passionate make out, he ripped your clothes off, made sweet love to you, and then left you exhausted on the bed to fall asleep as he rode off into the sunset!"

I rolled my eyes at Lila's wild imagination. "The sun had already set."

"What I wouldn't give to make sweet love to that boy..." I'd lost her. Her mind was somewhere else.

"Earth to Lila, girlfriend of Finn," I waved a hand in front of her face and she blushed.

"What can I say, Annie? Finn's the adorable puppy you've always wanted, but IH is like... a sexy chameleon."

"What the fu–"

"That came out wrong. I mean he's so mysterious and alluring and he disappears and ugh." 

"Do you have some kind of disappearing fetish?"

"No," Lila drawled. "I just mean..." She paused to think. "Sometimes I wish Finn would be more spontaneous."

"He's pretty romantic."

"Yes," Lila blanched, "but he's not spontaneous about it. He gets me flowers every Tuesday–"

"And you're complaining?"

"And we have date night every Wednesday – because the crime rates are just two high on weekends–"

"I don't see the issue here–"

"And he buys me chocolate when I'm on my period and shows up with a bunch of movies for me to choose from–"

"I really don't understand what's so bad about–"

"My point is," Lila threw her hands up, exasperated, "he's so predictable! He has a calendar to keeps track of my period so he can buy me chocolate and it's always the same four movies he shows up with! If I have to watch Free Willy one more time–"

"Lila!" I cut her off. "Finn's amazing. Most girls would kill to have a boyfriend like that! And trust me, the Invisible Hand isn't exactly perfect dating material!"

"Only you would date number one on villain's most wanted," she snickered.

"He's not a villain anymore," I muttered darkly. Lila's mouth snapped shut. 

After waking up to a billion missed calls and angry texts from Gabriel, I had immediately sent a distress call to Lila. She'd shown up ten minutes later grumbling unintelligibly about Mckenzie Ladders's god forsaken cat.

Lila had just began a new spiel about Finn - this time praising his attributes, thankfully - when my phone rang. 

"Hello?"

"Annie, hey, it's Dresden."

"I have caller ID you know."

"–And I mean he's really cute shirtless, like damn, that chest though. Before he knew I was the Claw–"

"Hang on Dresden. Lila–"

"Well I guess before I knew that he knew that I was the Claw–"

"Lila–"

"I'd always show up at his house and he'd be shirtless and I'd nearly fall off the damn windowsill because I'd get so distracted and–"

"Lila–"

"Remember we used to nickname him Eddy? Because I always talked about how pale he was and when he'd come to open the window for me the moonlight would make him look super pale like Edward Cullen?"
