"we have to go now, honey, you'll be okay here." y/n's mom said, leading her daughter into a cave, tears brimming her eyes. she stopped her daughter and turned to face her.

"but i don't want to... mom, are you leaving me here?" y/n cried.

"yes, it's the best for you and for me and your father." her mom said. "i have to go now, you'll be fine. you will be with people like you." the woman sobbed and kissed y/n on the cheek before vanishing back where she came from. y/n took a step back into the cave for a second and felt her hearing lower, but only for a moment.

she came out of the cave to see where her mother had gone, but there was no sign of her in the huge meadow or on the small paths down the small mountain. but the grass looked different to y/n, it looked brighter, fuller of life than before.

y/n took her two bags from the cave and turned around to walk back to the city, but she gasped and stopped in her tracks instead. there were two girls standing before y/n, both smiling. one of them, who looked about the same age as y/n, was blonde, in a blue dress and with gloves on her hands.

the other looked like a few years younger than the blonde and y/n and she had brown hair and an adorable dress on. y/n blinked a few times to make sure she wasn't dreaming, but the girls still stood there.

"wh-who are you?" y/n asked, tears spilling down her face.

"i'm bronwyn," said the brunette, "and she's emma. we're here to bring you to mis peregrine and her home."

"our home." emma corrected. "let's go, y/n."

"how do you know my name?" y/n was in nothing other than utter shock.

"we'll explain things later." emma said as bronwyn took y/n's hand and dragged her out of the cave. although, to y/n seemed like the girl was doing it without any effort, it seemed easy for her to drag someone after her. how was she that strong?

while emma and bronwyn, along with y/n, made their way through the forest to reach mis peregrine's place, y/n kept crying and pestering the two girls with questions. she was so confused about all of this, the tears kept coming even if she wanted to stop them.

"girls! finally you're here." mis peregrine smiled at the girls in front of her. "y/n, we've been waiting for you. come in, come in." she ushered and y/n followed emma and bronwyn inside the gothic-looking house.

y/n had no time to look around the place as she was too tired and confused. why were the people around her dressed in clothes from the last century? how did the girls appear in the cave so quickly? how did they know her name? how did the lady know her name? why did she say 'we've been waiting for you'? what was happening?

"oh, joy, there's someone new." a dark haired boy said. he was standing at the top of the stairs in the house. "after 68 years of waiting, someone appears." he said. but he doesn't look a year or two older than me. what's going on here?

"enoch!" the lady scolded. "don't be such a pessimist about everything."

"i'm not." the boy replied, but then groaned. "every time i say something positive, everyone thinks it's pessimistic. might as well not be here!" enoch shouted and stomped up the stairs, vanishing out of y/n's sight.

"don't mind him." the lady said. "he's always like that." she smiled. "anyway, this all must be very overwhelming for you. shall we drink some tea while i explain everything to you?"
