Hazel
I'm sitting on FaceTime with August talking about how it would be when he makes it big as I cook, and he suddenly stops talking. I really do believe he can make it far in this world, but he obviously thinks everything is just gay. I wish he didn't have that mentality so he can see just how talented he is.
"August."
I didn't get a respond.
"August Anthony Alsina Jr."
Still no response.
"AUGUST!!" I try my luck again.
Nothing.
"I'm not about to play with you."
Just as I bring my finger to the hang up button, he looks at the phone again. I wonder what he doing that got his mind and attention elsewhere, as if he doesn't hear me talking to him.
"Huh?" He finally asks.
"What you doin?"
"Just thinkin."
"What you thinkin about?"
"Nothin." He says as I see him stand up. "I gotta go baybeh ima call you back."
"Where you b-"
"Hazel I gotta go."
I smack my teeth and hang up. I lie my phone on the counter and continue to watch my bacon to make sure it doesn't burn. I don't know why he does this so often now, but I don't like it. Every time we have a conversation or something he always interrupts by sayin he gotta go and he'll talk to me later. I mean I know he's a dealer or whatever, but he doesn't have to go so abruptly and not talk to me. He sometimes stays on the phone with me until he gets to wherever he's going, but lately it feels like he's been pushing me away.
I hope he isn't seein somebody else. I know I may sound crazy because I'm not his girlfriend yet, but I don't want to be wasting my time on him. I get attached to people too easily and I'm not trying to get my heart broken.
I'm soon interrupted from my thoughts about five minutes later by my ringing phone. I pick it up and am surprised to see August name flash across the screen. I didn't know he would call back, especially since he was so ready to get off the phone with me. I answer and soon see his face pop up on the screen.
"What?"
"Man stop playin with me." He says as I look at him like he was stupid.
Who the hell does he think he is?
"August what do you want? I thought you said you had to go?"
"Stop hanging up on me."
"Really? That's why you called me?" I straight face him.
"Yea. Dat shit disrespectful as hell."
"Sorry not sorry."
"Quit playin and openna do'."
I furrow my eyebrows and go over to the door, peeking out of the peephole, surprised to see him standing at the door. If he was coming over here, why did he make it seem like he had to hang up? Could've just said he was coming over. I hang up once more before opening the door and coming face to face with him.
"Wassup."
"Hey."
"We goin somehwhea dress fancy aight?"
"Where we goin?" I ask closing the door behind him.
"Jus go get dressed."
I roll my eyes and head back to the kitchen. I turn the stove off and sit the pan on a different eye seeing that the bacon was done anyway.
