"You know, I would totally date you if you're not fucking gay Tony,"
Tony chuckled as I ran my fingers through my messy blonde locks. "Well too bad. I'm gay," he said and I jutted my bottom lip a bit. "That teh shitty thing about it. You look so damn good and yet, ugh," I groaned and he grinned.
I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket so I fished it out. I saw the caller ID that it's Jeff. I beamed and picked it up. "Hey baeball," I said and I heard a chuckle at the other line.
"Did you seriously called me baeball?" he asked and I nodded. "Uh-huh. Yes I did baeball. I missed you. We don't talk anymore," I said and I could feel him smiling.
"Sorry. Just busy with baseball scouts. . . You know, it's a critical year for me. I'll be moving in a couple of months," he said and I felt my heart sink. "That's. . . Um, great. Totally happy for you," I tried to sound cheerful but you could still hear the sadness in my voice, which sucks balls.
"Hey, I'll still call you, y'know. We need to keep in touch," Jeff said and I heard shuffling at the other line. I pursued my lips and nodded even though he doesn't see me nodding. "What about, I'll treat you at a fancy restaurant sometime. With all the wines, steaks," he said and I smiled.
"Promise?" I asked and licked my dry lips. "Promise. I need to go, still packing a few things," he said and I bid goodbye and so did he before we both hanged up. I looked at my phone before shoving it back to my jeans' pockets.
"Was that Justin?" Tony asked and I shook my head. "It's Jeff. He'll be moving pretty soon," I said and sighed deeply. "What's Jeff to you?" he asked and that made me think. What is Jeff to me?
"Everything apparantly. He's like my brother. My bestfriend. My otherhalf. We basically know what each other is thinking," I said and Tony nodded. "How about Justin?" he asked and I felt heat rose to my cheeks.
"He's. . . He's a different story. He brings out the bad in me. But in a good way," I quickly added as I saw Tony's brow rose a little. A small smile spread on his face and he halted the car. I looked around us to see that we're on some sort of hill. From our point of view, you could see all the lights of the city and it's simply. . . breathtaking.
"If you need me, I'll just be outside," Tony said and got out of the car. He walked to the fence and gazed down at the city while I gazed down on the player on my lap. I placed on my headphones and clicked play.
I saw Hannah deadly descending the stairs. I gripped on my red cup tightly and made my way through the sweaty bodies of teenagers, grinding and making out with each other. I reached Hannah and goofily smiled at her. I tipped a little on the side but Hannah caught my arm, hoisting me up.
"Hannah!" I said chirply and she smiled a bit at me. "Come on, let's dance. You owe me one because we didn't dance during winter formal," I said and dragged her to the dance floor, where teenagers are already dancing. Or more like grinding.
"I should've left. But I couldn't. Because this time, it's my turn to return the favor because all through our school year, you we're there by my side,"
"Hannah. I need to tell you something," I said and felt my eyes slowly getting heavy. I gestured Hannah to come forward so I could whisper something to her. "You have a firm ass," I said and giggled afterwards.
"I know that's supposed to be a compliment Maya. But, after all I've been through, after all I've heard about my ass. All of them became you. All those voices suddenly became yours. Suddenly, I heard your voice insulting me,"
"No. Hannah, I would never insult you!" I said as I felt tears prickling at the corner of my eyes.
Hannah pushed me away and stormed out of Jessica's party. I tipped side to side and I felt my body about to fall on the ground but somebody carried me bridal style. I looked at my side to see Jeff. I goofily smiled and poked his cheeks.
"Hey, Jeffy," I mumbled and he smiled a bit. "Hey Maya," he said and I felt him move through the crowd and out of the house. I nuzzled my head close to his chest and murmured. "Jeff I'm sleepy. Can I sleep in your arms?" I asked.
"Sleep away sleeping beauty," he said and I smiled before darkness fully eloped me.
"You don't deserve to be in this list Maya. Because all you showed me are kindness. You never showed a bitch before me. I know, for a brief moment, you saw that we'll still be friends in the future. Me, getting married to Clay and you. . . To whomever you wanted to. You stood up to me when no one else did and I thank you for that. Thank you for the friendship that we both had. I'll miss you Maya Hart,"
And with that, my tape ended. Tears are now streaming freely from my face. I burried my face in my palms and sobbed, my breathing getting hitched.
My car door opened to reveal Tony looking at me with concern. I wiped my tears but fresh ones kept rolling down my cheeks. "I should've never said it Tony. . . I shouldn't have," I said and he hugged me. I sobbed into his leather jacket as he rubbed my back soothingly.
"It was not your fault that she died. Okay? Don't put the pressure on you," he softly said. I pulled away and wiped my tears, biting my bottom lip. "Can you take me home?" I asked and he nodded.
Tony closed my door before going to the driver's seat. He twisted his keys in the ignition and the engine roared to life. Tony turned the car around and began driving back to the city. I leaned my forehead on the windows as I blankly stared at nothing.
I can feel Tony's gaze at me sometimes but he didn't bother to ask me. I'm a mess. My mind is a mess. I don't know how to cope up with everything I'm feeling. I miss Hannah. I miss my bestfriend. I miss her laugh, the way she cracks her sassy lines. Why did she have to end her life?
I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket and I numbly fished it out. I looked at my phone to see Justin calling. I picked it up and suddenly Justin's shaky voice entered my ears.
"Hey. . . Maya?" he said and I hummed a bit. "Can I. . . Can I crash at your house for just a night?" he asked and I sat up. Tony eyed me with his eyebrows in confusion.
"Uhm sure, give me ten minutes. . . I'm currently out right now," I said and I heard him took a deep intake of breathe. "Who are you with?" he asked, his voice slightly turning cold.
"I'm with Tony. We just had to run some errands but I promise I'll be there," I said and he huffed. "Okay. I'll see you soon," Justin mumbled and ended the call. I looked at Tony and he shrugged.
"Don't worry. We'll be there in five,"
