It was thanksgiving morning, the many smells of different foods filled my nostrils as I laid in bed staring out of the window. The trees looked gorgeous with the mixture of red, orange and yellow leaves dripping from the rain. It looked cold outside which only made me want to stay in bed longer. It was a crisp fall day, a day which hadn't even started yet and I was already tired. Something about being home always made me sleepy. Maybe it was the relaxation or the safety I felt but it made me feel like there were no worries.

I grab my phone and decide to text Luke

Me: Happy thanksgiving

After battling on whether or not I send a simple emoji or a risky one I decide to go with a classic smile. In no time at all, he responds

Luke: Thanks. U 2

His message makes me giggle. I roll over tangling my legs in my blanket and rub my tired eyes with a giddy smile still on my face.

Me: Any big plans?

Luke: No actually just me😧

The thought of Luke being all alone, in his huge empty home, probably turkey-less makes me feel a sadness inside my chest. No one should be alone on any holiday, especially Luke Hemmings. I did care for him even if I didn't know how exactly, it was plain to see I cared.

Instead of replying I get out of bed rather quickly sliding on some sweats and a black hoodie. I stop and look at my appearance in the small mirror that I used every day of my childhood. I look tired but well rested at the same time. Beautiful but disgusting. Young but old. I pull my tangled, messy dark hair up into what looks like a rat's nest on top of my head.

"Where are you hurrying off to hmm?" Jessica asks suspiciously from where she sits with a coffee cup in one hand and the tv remote in the other. Her small legs are crossed underneath her, eyebrows raised and a grin directed at me.

"Nowhere." I say casually and shrug my shoulders. I pull my hood over my head and stuff my hands in my pockets as the cool crisp air encases all around me.

I don't have far to walk but I'm shivering as soon as I cross the street. I knock on his door loudly and step back tapping my freezing, anxious leg. When Luke opens the door he is wearing the same thing I am with an equally sleepy face and messy hair sticking out in every direction.

"Stella?" He props the door open and rubs his tired crystal eyes stretching his mouth widely as he yawns.

I giggle, "Come over?" I ask even though I have already made up my mind. He will not be spending thanksgiving alone, without a proper feast.

"Right now? What are you talking-"

"You are spending thanksgiving with my family, come over and spend the day with people. Why are you making this so hard?" I stand with my hand on my hips pouting a little at him.

"Okay let me..." he starts but I shut him up by grabbing his hand and pulling him hard out his door. His eyes go wide and his feet stumble at first.

He gathers himself quickly and pulls his door shut with a loud thud. We run across the street mumbling about how cold it is and laughing. The two of us practically  stumble into my living room earning eyes from everyone. I don't mind that they are staring with their jaws on the floor. I'm out of breath, freezing and too happy to care.

After an entire day of preparing, cooking and pure laziness dinner is finally ready. My sister, Jessica smiles widely at me as the two of us set the table. Both of us look towards Luke, who is sitting with his long legs spread out on the living room floor coloring with our baby sister. I look back at her and smile, she wiggles her eyebrows but I don't care. My heart feels happy, I have everyone I care for here for one night, one meal and I'm content with that.

"Let's eat!" Jessica yells loudly and impatiently. Luke stands and begins to carry my little sister in on his hip. She pokes his face and tugs on it viciously and he just laughs.

We all pile our plates with Turkey, endless sides and deserts gathering around the table. I grab one of the rolls Luke and I made, which ended in the two of us throwing flour at each other and sliding around on the slippery floor.

Nobody really talks but instead we stuff our faces. My dad compliments my mother on her hard work and baking. Jess  chimes in and argues that she helped. I turn my attention to Luke and when I do I see that he is looking at me with a smile on his face. He reaches under the table and rest his hand on my thigh. I nearly gasp at the shock of his act. Never has he expressed any type of feelings for me and then he just goes for it, jumping in fully. I grow nervous as my dad calls my name.

"Earth to Stella." He says forcing me to look away from the intense stare I was sharing with Luke.

"Huh, what dad?" I blink my eyes and meet his, Luke's hand rubs my leg in attempt to calm me but only makes it worse.

"I said, it's been wonderful to have you back." He takes a sip of his beer. "And you as well Luke."

"Oh, the pleasure is really all mine sir, I enjoy your family so much." He smiles a toothy grin at him.

I love that he gets along so well with my family. I mean regardless they are neighbors and my parents probably know more about him than I do.

"I'm so full. I feel like I could explode!" I yell over exaggerating and leaning back in my chair.

Everyone at the table laughs lightly and stares at me. My mom excuses herself to put my sister to bed. The two of them disappear down the hall with their hands connected, my sister yawns sleepily and follows behind.

"So what should we all do tonight?" Jess asks standing and walking into the living room. She plops down on the couch and searches through the channels.

Luke clears his throat earning my attention, "I should probably get going and let you all enjoy the rest of your evening." He stands up and removes his hand from my leg. A sadness over takes me when the cold air reaches the empty spot where his hand rested.

"Are you kidding stay?" I ask looking up at him.

"Jen and I are probably going to call it a night anyways it will be just you kids, stay and have a good time." My dad suggests. I smile at him secretly thanking him for pleading with me.

Luke looks at me and then my dad switching between the two of us and eyeballing the front door.My dad smiles and disappears.

I stand so that I'm level with Luke, even though he still towers over me. I anxiously reach my fingers out and grab his hands in mine cautiously. Neither of us expected it or really knew what to do so they just hung there between us awkwardly. "Stay?" I look up at him with every nerve in my body begging for him to just stay with me. "Please, just stay awhile here, with me."

I move a little closer to his body, feeling the warmth radiate off of him. Luke smiles and squeezes my hand lightly. "I'll stay just for you Stella."
