I slowly crawl back up to my feet, wobbling as I take my first step on land since god knows how long. I look up and down the shore, and see nothing but sand for miles. I sigh sadly, trying to stop the tears. I look forward to see what resembles a forest.
'Stay on the sand and wait for a ship to pass by? Or, go into the forest?' I question in my head.
I look down and see my dead father.
"He deserves a grave." I say as I make a decision.
I roll up the sleeves of my shirt and wipe away the tears. I lift Dad to his feet and wrap his arm on my shoulder and wrap my arm around his waist. I take slow, but huge steps toward the forest. Once I feel we're far enough, I carefully lay Dad down on the ground. I fall to my knees and start digging the dirt away. I dig and dig, putting my emotions, frustrations, my tears, my blood, and sweat into digging a grave for my father. My dead father. I see that I'm deep enough to lay his body down. I get back up my feet and grab Dad. I lay him down into the hole, and that's when I see a small note book fall from his shirt pocket. I grab the book and stand back up.
'No writing inside. Who carries a notebook without writing in it?' I think as I flip through the pages.
I shrug and shove the book down into the back of my pants pocket. I start piling the dirt back, over my Dad. When I see he is fully covered, I stand back up. I look down and begin to silently cry.
"I love you, Daddy." I whisper.
I hear the sound of a branch breaking from afar. I quickly reach down and grab a rock.
"Who's there?" I call out.
No voices respond. I slowly drop the rock down to my side. That's when I hear the sound of a bow string snapping back to place, and the whistle of an arrow flying to its target. Me.
:/:/:/:/:/:/:/:/:/:/:/:/
I gasp awake, and rush up from my position of laying down on the ground.
"Next time, keep your guard up. I could tell in your eyes you heard the arrow coming toward you. If you kept the rock up, could've deflected it." A voice sounds.
"Who are you? Where am I?" I question quickly.
Before I could interrogate more, a plate of food is dropped in front of me. I look up and see an older looking Asian man with a green hood on, in front of me.
"Eat, rest. You will need energy to recover from the wound, and the energy to survive your journey." The man says before walking away.
The man sits down on a stone and begins to drink water and stare at the camp fire. I start nibbling the food in front of me. I look and see the man staring at me questioningly.
"I'm Thea Queen." I introduce nervously.
The man nods in understanding and turns his attention back the fire.
"You know, normally when someone introduces their self, you introduce yourself in return. It's basic manners. Now, tell me your name." I push.
I see a faint smile appear on the older man's face. He turns and looks at me.
"I am Yao Fei Gulong." Yao Fei introduces.
