Tony's heart dropped, the words nobody ever wants to hear.

"W-What.." Tony choked up.

"He went out on a mission, he never came back. They found his body." Loki said.

"No no you have got to be kidding me. He isn't dead. He can't be dead!" Tony screamed. "He is my best friend!! He can't be dead!!!" People began to look at Tony, he was crying and screaming.

"Tony, we have to go." Loki picked him up and quickly walked out and to the car.

"No!! He's not dead!!!" He screamed. "He can't be!!!" Loki sat Tony in the seat and kneeled down.

"Baby.." Loki cupped Tony's cheeks. "You need to calm down..."

"I can't fucking calm down!!! He was my best friend!" Tony cried. Loki sighed and got up, shutting the door and driving them home. Tony kept crying the entire way to his house. Loki got out and carried Tony inside and sat him on the couch.

"Tony please. I know it hurts. I know he's your best friend. But you need to calm down" Loki said.

"He's my best friend. He will always. Always. Be my best friend" Tony cried. "This is a cruel sick joke!! H-he is my best man. He is supposed to be there for me!!!" He could hardly catch his breath. The thought of his best friend being gone was too much.

"Director Fury needs to see you.." Loki said quietly. He didn't want to upset Tony even more but it had to be said.

"I-I can't. I can't go see him." Tony said.

"Tony... they need you there. For Steve." Loki said. He was starting to tear up. Steve was there for him as well but Steve had such a big impact on Tony.

"Loki.. I can't." Tony looked up at him, his eyes puffy. "He was my best friend"

"I know.. but you need to be strong. You need to be strong for him." Loki said, carefully wiping Tony's tears from his eyes. "For him."

"O-okay.." Tony said, he continued to cry silently. They went to the Avengers Headquarters. Everything felt different, everything was quiet. It was raining outside, everything was just gloomy. As if the world lost a hero, and they did.

"I have gathered you all here today, some of you know why. Steven G. Rogers was found dead... this morning" Fury paused. He was just as hurt as everyone else. Tony was the most beat up about it, Loki was holding his hand trying to keep him calm. "Every single one of you will take this news differently, but we will all get through this hard time just as he said. Together." After Fury said that Tony lost it. He began to cry again.

"Tony..." Loki hugged him and let tony cry into his shoulder. Everyone looked at Tony, some began to cry with him. They were all hurt.

"The funeral will be held tomorrow. Everyone needs to be there." Fury said. "We lost a good soldier. We will always remember him." He then walked out. Leaving everyone there silent.

"S-Steve.." Tony cried even more. One by one people began walking out, if it was because they were crying, or they couldn't bear to see Tony like this. "Why me!!"

The rest of the night was dark. Tony was in his depressed state and Loki couldn't help pull him out of it. Tony didn't sleep so neither did Loki. The morning came and there they both were, laying in bed, silent.

"Tony... it's time." Loki spoke up. Tony just rolled over, it wasn't time. It will never be time. "Tony." Loki stood up and walked over to his side, pulling him out of bed.

"I'm just a fucking mess." Tony mumbled.

"You are not. Let's get dressed." Loki said, he couldn't stand this. But he helped Tony put on a nice suit and he put one on as well. "We are here for you." Loki said as he helped fix Tony's tie. "We will always be here."

"Not Steve." Tony began to tear up. Loki was surprised he hasn't ran out of tears yet.

"Shh. Take my hand." Loki put his hand out and Tony took it. They walked to Tony's car and both got in. "You'll be okay.."

"I'll never be okay anymore." Tony said before they drove off to the funeral.

"We are here...." Loki said. It was a nice place. Very... Steve.

"Yeah." Tony got out and Loki followed, grabbing his hand.

"Ready?" Loki asked. Tony nodded. They both walked in, it was a small funeral, an open casket.

"Can I go see him..?" Tony asked quietly. Loki looked at Tony and nodded. He was talking to Thor so Tony went by himself. He slowly walked to the casket, every step he saw more of Steve. He stopped and looked down, Steve was dressed in a suit, his shield placed with him. "Steve.. please let this be a dream.." He began to cry quietly. "Please.. wake up. You promised you'd be my best man. How am I supposed to have a wedding without you.. I'm alive because of you... wake up. Just wake up.." Loki walked up behind Tony and put his hand on his shoulder. "Please Steve, I need you. We all need you..."

"Tony... we need to sit down.." Loki said.

"I-I can't. I cant leave him here" Tony said. Loki sighed and grabbed Tony's hand, pulling him away. The ceremony began. Fury came up and spoke about the Captain. Then other members of the avengers. Then Tony.

"Steve..." he began, gripping the sides of the podium. "We knew him as Steve. But the world knew him as Captain America. The man that was frozen for 72 years, them came out of it and saved us all." Tony looked back at the casket. "This is a tragedy that has hit us all, not just the people here.. but the world. This is a cruel joke... he. Was my best friend. Yes we had our fights, but everyone does. He is one of the reasons I'm still alive today." Tears streamed down Tony's face, Loki looked down knowing part of that was his fault. "Steve is the reason Loki is here.. he is the reason that we are all here. He promised he would be my best man at my wedding.. well. He almost made it. But.. not quite." His voice started cracking. "I just... I miss him." Tony looked at the small group of people. "I miss him so much I don't know what to do. He was always there for me. I just.. I quit. I resign. I resign... from everything. I can't imagine a wedding... or anything. Without him." Loki looked up at Tony, he got up and walked over to him.

"Tony.." he said quietly. "Do you know what you're doing?"

"Yes. I do. I don't want to get married without him being there! He promised he'd be there!" Tony said. The crowd was silent. Loki was hurt, but Tony wouldn't care. Not at this time.

"Okay... I think that's all." Loki said and walked Tony back to the chairs. Sitting him down and then walking out to get a drink. The ceremony went on and then it was time for them to move Steve to the cemetery. Tony was the first to get there. And they were the last to leave.

"You promised, Steve."
