Day in, day out they labour
Hauling black gold for the man
Sweating and straining in the sun
Black dirt filling boots and nostrils
Backs straining with the load
All day long they strain
Deep in the black waters
Digging for the earths treasures
Gnarled faces staring out from beneath the load
Grimace with pain as they trudge ever forward
Then dumping their load in a truck
They return, back to the banks
One more load today
One more tomorrow
A never-ending labour
Borne on weary back
Bringing black gold to gardens
Renewing life
Reinvigorating dead soil.
