Torei looked around, her hands on her hips. Boxes crowded the new apartment.

"I can carry it!" yelled Cory.

"Let it go," Topanga almost growled, and Torei turned to look at her two best friends, laughing.

"Married couples, I swear," 23-year old Meredith Mendes chuckled, watching as Cory looked terrified and Topanga looked content as she carried the box in.

"Aunt Torei, where do you want this?" Riley Matthews asked, coming in with a smaller box.

"You can put it right there," Torei told Cory and Topanga's thirteen year old, pointing to the small coffee table she had set up.

"Oh, this is so exciting," Topanga said, walking over to grab Torei's hands. "You, in the city. You haven't been here for so long."

"It's been what, a few weeks?" she asked, but she knew the real answer.

"Thirteen years," Topanga responded, and Torei let out a small sigh.

"I'm here every once in a while," she said, "I take Riley out all the time."

"The last time you took me out was my ninth birthday, Auntie Torei," Riley said.

"Okay, well, I'm here now," Torei nodded.

"And just in time for the holidays," Cory said.

"I'm gonna need all the help I can get," laughed Topanga. "We're hosting it at our apartment, Mrs. Matthews is used to having it her way, and you know how that goes."

"Just do what she does," replied Torei.

"That's what I was thinking, using her recipe to pull the entire occasion together," Topanga explained.

"Your making her-"

"Specialty? Of course."

"I love how they finish each other's sentences," Riley said, before looking down at the time on her phone. "Mom, I'm supposed to meet Maya at Svorski's."

"Oh, yeah, your father will drive you," replied Topanga. "I'll stay and help Torei get set up."

-

"So," Maya asked, sitting across from Riley in a booth at Svoski's. "Your Aunt Torei and her little sister moved to the city."

"Yeah, she's like, a ten minute walk from my apartment complex, my dad and mom are so excited to have her here," Riley replied.

"Are you?" Maya asked.

"I don't know," replied Riley, shaking her head. "It's just, I love her a lot, times with her are always amazing, unforgettable, but there's something that happened between her, my parents, and my dad's best friend, Shawn, when they were younger, and no one talks about it, but it's always there causing problems."

"What do you mean?" Maya asked.

"I don't know," Riley responded. "It's all a mess, I just try not to ask, even though I really want to know."

"Well, isn't this mysterious Uncle Shawn coming to Christmas?" asked Maya.

"That's what my parents said."

"Maybe we'll figure it out then."

"Maybe. Hopefully, I don't know."
