Y/n's P.O.V.

I looked up at my mom and smiled. "Sweetie, why don't we go play outside?" Mom said so calm.

"Okay." I said as we walked out the back door to our backyard. We played outside for hours upon hours up until the sun went down; and then we would gaze at the stars. It was finally bedtime and Mom was tucking me in. She smiled and started singing gently. Once she was done, she walked to the door and turned off the light, "Good night, Y/n."

"Good night, Mommy." I said as my eyes drifted shut.

SLAM! I open my eyes as Auntie accidentally smacked the laundry basket against the wall trying to get out of my room. I say, stirring awake, "What are you doing, Auntie?"

"Trying to sneak out of you're room with your dirty clothes?" She replied humorously.

I laughed and almost cried laughing, "Don't say it like that, Auntie!" After Auntie scolded me for laughing, I took care of myself and went downstairs for breakfast. I ate my favorite morning meal. I finished and threw away my garbage and yelled goodbye to Auntie. I walked outside and onto the side walk. I see kids from all over town walking to school. I decide to get to school earlier than I wanted to.

As I was halfway to school, I saw Star jumping around and singing in front of Marco. I then see Marco starring at Jackie, who is riding down the side walk on her skateboard. I smile as Marco stumbles. "You are hilarious, Marco!" Jackie yelled back as she rode off.

Then, I see Tom talking to a small shadowy figure in the bushes. I think of every possible outcome of walking closer to Tom, but it all flies out the window when Tom notices me and jumps out of the bushes with leaves in his hair. "Hey, Y/n!" He waves to me and smiles.

"Hey, Tom," I walk up to him confused, "You got a few leaves in your hair." I said as I grabbed them and tossed them to the side.

Tom starts blushing. "So, have you 'fallen' for me?" He looks at me with a flirty grin.

"No, I haven't." I reply, rolling my eyes. I continue walking in the direction of the school.

Tom shouts to me, "If you let me take you on a date, you will definitely fall for my qualities!"

"Not in a million years!" I yell back as I walk away to school.

As I walked into the classroom, Miss Skullnick looked mad. "Hello, Miss Skullnick." I said, wondering what happened that had her so red.

"You are late for class! Is there an explanation for this?" Miss Skullnick asked angrily.

"Um, no..." I said, regretting stopping for some weird boy that was perverted, "I'm sorry, Miss Skullnick. I was caught up talking to some horned jerk. It won't happen again."

Miss Skullnick stepped behind her desk and wrote on a pink slip, "It won't happen again because I am sending you to detention."

I sighed and grabbed the slip the troll lady handed me, heading back to my seat which was right behind Marco.

Marco leaned back in his seat and whispered, "Got caught up with Tom?"

I nodded and laid my head in my arms.

Time Skip...

I looked at the clock the fifth time in two minutes and sighed. Marco then walked in and slapped his detention slip onto the front desk a substitute teacher currently sat at. Marco walked over to me and sat down in the desk next to me. I asked in a bored tone, "What'd you do?"

He sighed and replied, "Covered for one of Star's messes."

It was silent again until I asked, "Hey, Marco? Did you get the science test review-"

"Y/n, why did you avoid me yesterday?" He asked out of nowhere.

The substitute then suddenly left for no reason whatsoever. I sighed, "Marco, I needed to get to my classes. It was my first day."

Then Marco questioned, "You knew I was going to ask about the dance, didn't you?"

I frowned, "Yeah. I'm sorry. It's just- I just met you and-"

"We can go as friends. I just wanted to go to the dance with you." Marco interrupted, turning towards me.

I immediately blushed, hiding my face by looking out the window, "Really?"

"Yeah! We can also bring some more people along if you aren't completely comfortable with it just being you and me." Marco smiled, tilting his head.

I smiled back and said, "We can go just us two as friends. I trust you enough to not do anything to make me uncomfortable. Thank you for being so considerate."

The rest of detention, we talked about what costumes we would wear and if we should wear matching with Star or not.

It was time for the sun to set and I had decided to check out the sunset on one of the hills the locals loved to have gatherings at. There was a nice old tree that sat at the top of the hill that had a bunch of cool carvings indented into it's aged bark. When I say "cool carvings", I mean hearts with initials, shapes and sayings, and some odd shapes that someone probably scribbled when they were bored.

I sat at the trunk of the tree and watched this new foreign landscape mold with the setting sun. It was the most peace I had felt since my mom was alive. From the exhaustion of moving and meeting new people, I began to gently drift off as the sun continued to fall below the horizon...

Until a hand was placed over my mouth and nose. The hand held a cloth with some kind of liquid, which was most likely chloroform. I struggled against the person, who had pulled me up to stand with them as I breathed in the harmful chemical. My vision began to blur and then nothing.
