Charlene smiled at me and I groaned. "There's no one, is there?" I whined.

"I don't know. Does your delusional ass see anyone?" she asked. I have half a mind to hit her. Right here. Right now.

"It's not funny, Charlene. You dragged me out of bed to pull a stupid prank on me? Why do you even work here if you don't like anyone anyway?"

She rolled her eyes. "I know, right? I really want to work at that new Lush that opened down the street. I'm totally awesome with makeup! But, apparently, I need job experience for that, so I'm stuck in this sorry place for the next month. And, also, you actually do have a visitor. Now sit down and I'll get him in." Him?

Maybe Patrick's back to apologize? Who knows.........I lifted my head as the person entered, and I didn't like it. Someone wearing a cap and a hoodie. I couldn't see their face, which instantly made me nervous. What if it's another one of those tests? What if they're here to take me to a lab? These thoughts gave me fear. I hate fear. Fear is what makes a person vulnerable. The person lifted their head, too, and my eyes widened as I recognized the face.

"Long time no see, little girl." He chuckled.

"What do you want, David? You took everything I have, anyway. Just....just......"

"Just what?" he mocked.

"Just leave! I don't need you in my life, anyway! Kill me and get it over with if that's what you want!" I yelled at him.

"I could do that, you know," he spoke with a growl. "but I have a deal for you. I can get you out of here, Alice." I froze. He could get me out of here.

"What's the other side of the deal?" I asked, trying to sound monotonous.

"Oh, nothing special. Taking care of Sophie while I'm gone." Sophie? I'd almost forgotten about the little girl who killed her own father.

"Gone doing what? Killing people? Why don't you just stay at the asylum and take care of her yourself?" I spat.

"Argue all you want. I'll need to get out of here soon, though. The building's exploding any minute."

"Exploding?" I asked in disbelief. "You'd get out of here, and all of those insufferable workers would die. Especially that obnoxious girl who let me in." Charlene. Do I want her dead?

Yes, you do, Alice. You hate Charlene, don't you? You'd be doing the world a favor.

I thought, and David extended his hand.

"It's now or never, Alice."

Now's your chance. You can kill him if you follow him.

I agree. I slowly took his hand and shook it, but he pulled me off the chair and started running with me. Charlene was standing in front of the door and nearly grabbed me as I ran after David.

"Come back!" She yelled, not making an effort to chase after us. Probably because her hairstyle would get ruined or something.

"Hurry up!" David shouted back at me, and I tried to run faster than I already was. I am not planning to die in an explosion. We jumped out as the building blew up behind us.

"Nice time planning." I huffed as I fell onto the ground, exhausted. I then remembered how many people were in there. About a hundred more deaths caused by me. I stood up to see that David was already up and leaving. "Hey, wait!" I hollered, as I ran after him. He didn't take any notice.

You could strangle him right now. You really could, you know?

Yes. I know. I just don't know where the hell I am, and I don't think I can exactly ask for directions to my apartment, now, could I? My apartment. I hope I still own it. I'd have a place to go after I kill David. I walked in silence, enjoying my first breaths of the cool, winter air. It cleared my foggy mind. I then started thinking a bit more with my clearer mind.

"How do you do it?" I asked quietly, my voice choked up.

"Do what?" He asked, out of what sounded like genuine curiosity. There are so many things that could fit. How do you sleep at night? How do you even feel fine after ruining so many lives? But this wasn't what I asked him.

"How can you kill so many people, and still act like everything's fine?" He stopped, and looked at me intensely. He opened his mouth, and was about to say something, but stopped himself and looked down. I got a bit impatient. "Answer me!"

He looked back up at me. "It's simple, Alice. Bury your sane part deep inside yourself, and you can live happily. You can do anything without your humane instinct telling you to do otherwise." He then turned away and started walking along the path again.
