I Am Poem

I am girl of color

I am a girl born into a situation of unwanted circumstances

I am a girl with a hole in my heart needing to be filled

I am a girl who was told she was the favorite but was abandoned by the most important man in her life, her father

I am a girl who is constantly asked questions I don't know how to answer

I am a girl who cannot express her emotions like the other girls

I am an older sister who worries about all seven of her younger siblings

Blood or not

I am black in a world where black is hated and bad

God forbid that black has uterus

I am from a place where we watch our back because our protectors are really their protectors

I am from a place where my innocence was stripped away so that I would be ready to wear my brother's face on t-shirt

I am from a place of reality but in reality are my people happy
