Chapter Seventeen: The Abnormally Normal Brunette

"Guys." Ria sat at the lunch table. She opened up her salad and began picking at the chicken inside it.

"Hmm," the two hummed in a unison.

Sara was busy finishing up her homework which was due next period. Her hands gripped the pencil like her life depended on it and wrote away. Her usually neat hand writing looked like it had been replaced by one that belonged to a kindergartener.

Joey was glaring at the apple that sat on his part of the table. His stomach was mewling in agony as he continued to shoot daggers at the ripe red fruit. In a rush, he had forgotten his wallet on his bedside drawer, resulting in him not having lunch money. He refused to have the girls pay for his lunch, saying that not eating was his punishment.

"Joey, just eat my damn parfait," Sara growled. She shoved the yogurt towards him, shooting him an irritated look. He was about to refuse when she smacked him upside the head and stuffed a spoon full inside his mouth. Reluctantly, he began to eat it, scared she'd hit him again. "Sorry, Ria. What were you saying?"

She dropped her fork in her bowl and looked up at her friends. "Do you think something is wrong with me?"

The two stopped what they were doing and looked at her. "No. Why would you ask that?" Joey questioned.

"Because. Something about me isn't normal. Something is wrong with me," she sadly sighed.

"Ria, Honey, nothing is wrong with you. You are completely normal." Sara grabbed her hand and gave it a squeeze.

"Guys. I know you feel the need to always make me feel better about myself, but please just forget I'm your friend for a moment and just see me as a random girl. Do I look normal to you?"

Sara and Joey gave each other a look before staring at Ria in deep thought. They didn't exactly know what to tell her. Ria was perfect, actually, she was beyond perfect. From her never messed up hair to her blemish free face. Her height was perfect and so was her weight. They literally could not find any imperfections in her.

"Sweety, we can't find anything wrong with you," Sara told her.

"It's cause your not looking deep enough. Don't you guys find it strange how, for a fifteen year old, I've never had my period. Like ever. Or how I've never ever been sick. Like not even a damn cough or sneeze. Heck, I've never had one damn pimple on my face. Or how about the fact that no matter how long I stay in the sun, I can't tan or get sunburnt. Don't you think that's really odd?"

They scrunched up their eyebrows in confusion. She was right. She never started her period and even after consulting many doctors, they could seem to find out what was wrong. She never got sick. According to doctors, it just meant that she was very healthy. She's never had a blemish on her face and the girl is as pale as a ghost, which is strange considering she loves to sunbathe and play outdoor sports.

"I-" Sara was lost for words. So was Joey. They didn't know what to tell her.

"Exactly. Guys, something is wrong with me and I have a feeling that those nightmares have something to do with it. I'm telling you, they're something more than just a figment of my imagination. It's like I'm reliving something every time I have them. And lately, I've been hearing weird things and it's been getting worse."

"Like how?" Sara was so intrigued by whatever she was saying. She never once stopped to question why things were the way they were with her.

Joey just sat there so confused. How had he never realized this?
