"We broke up."
Josh's words ring in my ears. I was not expecting that.
I see a drop hit the pavement. I look back over to Josh and see him crying. It's nothing new to me, I've witnessed him break down more than once. But I suddenly feel like doing the same.
I open my arms and his head flies to my chest. We stay like that for a minute, not saying anything to each other.
"Josh, I'm sorry..."
"I don't know why I'm crying. I was the one who initiated it. We agreed on it." He sniffles and sits back up.
"Do you want to come inside? I can make a pot of tea, turn on a movi-"
"I should go home, actually..."
"You sure?"
He nods and stands up.
"I'll tell you more later. I have to pick Tyler and Jenna up from the airport in the morning..."
"Text me so I know you made it home safe, okay?"
"Okay."
I stand up to hug him and watch him pull away in his car.

The sun hits my face, blinding me when I wake up. I look at my alarm clock, it's 11AM.
"Holy shit, I slept late." I say to myself, but remember that I didn't go to bed until around 3 this morning.
My body tenses when I hear voices coming from my living room. I grab the pepper spray that's in my bag from last night and start to head for the door.
I crack it open and see Jenna and Tyler, lounging on my couch like they live here. I throw the spray back in my bag and sigh out of relief.
"What the hell, you guys! I thought someone broke into my house!"
"Well, you weren't wrong." Jenna grins and practically tackles me in a hug. "I missed you sooooo muchhhhh."
"You were only gone for a week."
"I don't careeeeeee." She grabs my face and kisses me on the cheek.
"Girl, gross I haven't even showered yet." I wipe my cheek off.
"Well, go! We're wine tasting today."
"...It's not even noon yet."
"It's n e v e r too early for wine."
"I have to baby sit at 7 tonight, so only shot glass quantities for me."
"Yay, then you can drive!"
I sigh and head back to my room to shower.
I'm not much of a drinker. Well, I shouldn't say it like that. I'm not much of a drinker anymore.
My depression hit lower than it ever had before when I moved to Cincinnati. I didn't have a job, any friends in the area, and my first apartment was ridden with bugs and rats. I regretted my decision every night and pretty much just drank the resentment away.
I shake off the bad memories and throw some clothes on. No makeup today. Thankfully I didn't fall asleep with it on last night.
"Let's go, Mrs. Joseph. You staying here?" Tyler looks up from his phone.
"Hm? Yeah, I guess. Josh is probably coming to help me raid your fridge."
"Cool." I wonder if they know about what happened last night.
Jenna gets up from my couch and turns back around to peck Tyler on the cheek.
I scrunch my nose and stick my tongue out. "Gross, guys. Not on the furniture."
