I was walking down a dark path. The thick surrounding fog inhibiting my sight. I felt confident I was heading in the right direction even though I didn't recognize my surroundings. A soft voice whispered, "Find your way." I saw a shadow up ahead and ran towards it. In my heart I knew it was Elizabeth.

Just as I reached out and grabbed her arm I was suddenly being dragged backwards. I struggled to fight my way free from the hold around my neck and was terrified when I realized there was nothing there. The unknown force pinned me to the ground and I felt myself being pulled right into the hard earth beneath me. I was frantically screaming and fighting off my invisible attacker with every last breath I had in me.

My eyes flew open as I sat up full of fear. I was startled to find Sorin sitting in the chair in my room when I woke up. "What's going on?" I asked with mild alarm.

"You were yelling in your sleep. Do you have dark dreams often?" he asked with obvious concern.

"What? I don't know... I guess so." I was thrown off by his presence in my room. Why would he care?

  "How long?"

  "How long what?"

"Have you been having them? I presume it is often, judging by how tired you seem, you do not sleep well, do you?"

"Um, no." I rubbed my face and ran my fingers through my tangled hair. "I've got a lot going on in my life." It felt strange talking to him about it. He already knew I was incompetent while I was awake. Did he have to know I was equally screwed up in my sleep?

  "How long?" he asked again.

"A few months or more, I'm not sure. Why?" It had been so long I didn't remember the last time I had slept peacefully.

"You must take better care of yourself," he said and stood up heading for the door. "I will wait for you downstairs. We will leave as soon as you are ready."

I sat there for a moment staring at the door wondering what exactly just happened. Had he actually spent the night watching over me? The thought was unnerving, but at the same time I felt oddly safe. I rubbed my hands over my face again and climbed off the bed with a yawn. This was the day I was going to save my sister and that was the only thing that mattered.

I met Sorin in the living room and he took me down to the main floor to meet the soldier he had talked about. I couldn't have been more shocked when I saw her. There stood a small woman with chin length pokey blonde hair and vivid icy blue eyes. She looked more like a goddess than a soldier. The black cat suit she wore shimmered like it had a life of it's own. She smiled brightly as we approached.

"Nice to see you Nicole, I am Modo." She bowed her head. "So he finally convinced you to become one of us?" She eyed the uniform I was wearing and then glanced at Sorin. He just looked back at her with no expression.

"Oh. No." I shook my head, feeling awkward. "He just thought it would be better for me to blend in."

She smiled, glancing over my shoulder. "I do not think it is working."

I turned to find two guys walking by me. One smiled, the other winked. I blushed.

I would soon learn that Modo was exceptionally honest and spoke everything that was on her mind, which was refreshing but sometimes embarrassing. Like Lera, she definitely made me feel more comfortable with my situation. I could easily see myself being friends with them had they lived back home.

When I felt Sorin place his hand on my shoulder, I closed my eyes. The whole realm travel thing freaked me out. When we arrived, we went to the area where Sorin had annihilated everything.
