A/N - A pretty lengthy chapter but I have a lot happening here 😬 Let me know what you think of this bit, kinda building up here...
Jacob strolled into the ED among several other members of staff, chatting and gossiping about the previous night. "How's that headache coming along?" Jacob smirked smugly as he looked over at Cal and Robyn. "Alright not everyone's as lucky as you-" "Me? You two drank more than I've ever seen a single person consume in one night. If you ask me you're lucky to be alive."
Robyn rolled her eyes as she dropped her head forwards into her hands. Jacob moved towards a cupboard before placing a box of tablets before them both. "Connie used to keep them there for easy hiding. None of you would ever go in there." He smirked as they once again rolled their eyes before they began to disperse starting to work.
Jacob pulled something up on the computer as Elle stopped beside him holding a folder to her chest. "Someone's on a mission today. What's got you so happy?" He looked up shrugging as he turned to her. "Nothing, I guess I'm just getting on with things like you suggested." She nodded with a small smile as she tapped his arm with the file. "Good... I'll catch you later." He nodded as she disappeared into the department while he looked back at the computer.
He looked at the email he'd sent her before looking to the confirmation that it had been sent. She'd seen it, and whether it meant she acted upon it or not, she was aware that he wasn't about to stop. Although he'd been moving on with everything, a part of him still hoped she'd walk back through these doors but he knew better than to believe that would happen. Despite that, he knew that someone must know something and if there was anyone in the department, it could only be one person.
As the shift continued on, Jacob found himself wandering around cubicles having discharged his patient. Across the hall he noticed Charlie standing outside his office speaking to one of the junior doctors. Approaching the nurses station, his attention was called up as a few staff began chatting.
"You up for a few drinks tonight then?" "Ha ha, you're just hilarious..." Robyn looked across the desk to Alicia who began to walk away with a smirk leaving the rest of them standing there. Jacob lifted his head looking towards Charlie, seeing him still talking. "Ah Jacob, is there any chance you can take over with my patient there's a meeting upstairs that I need to be in but I can't find anyone else free..." He didn't seem to register anything that was said to him as he continued looking off across the corridor.
Elle sighed looking to him before stepping into his line of sight. "Jacob? He told you then... That he'd heard from Connie?" His eyes shifted back to Elle as he nodded, quickly recovering. "Yeah... Yeah he mentioned it earlier... Look I'll sort your patient, get up to that meeting." "Thank you, I owe you." He smiled as she rushed away, holding onto the folder she had given him before pushing his tongue into his cheek watching Charlie retreat into his office.
It didn't come as a surprise to him that Charlie had heard from Connie, or that he had kept it from him. After all it was probably her wish for him to not know, and he couldn't really blame her for the way things had been before she left. Closing what he had open on the computer he returned to cubicles busying himself a while longer until he had a chance for a break.
The corridors were quiet as her heels echoed through them, her phone in her hand as she flicked her hair back over her shoulder continuing on her way. It was strange walking these corridors, they seemed darker than Holby and somewhat more unattractive. She continued walking until she noticed someone lingering beside her office door. "Dr Feathering-" "Ah Mrs Beauchamp." She smiled briefly before the thoughts of all the reasons he could be standing there started filling her head.
