Ashlee dropped me off in front of my apartment right after school.  I think she would have liked to pepper me with more questions but, I was too tired to deal with that today. She told me to smile, and think about Aaron. I just rolled my eyes and went inside.

In my apartment, I could practically feel the quiet. My two roommates have work today and I could use the alone time. Stripping out of my jeans, sweater, and boots (the weather was nice and cool today), I put on a t-shirt and yoga pants, and opened up my bedroom window, before flopping down on my bed. I guess I was more tired than I thought because my eyes immediately started to feel heavy. The last thing I remembered was seeing a shadow fly across my window, and then the sweet, calming relief of sleep.

When I woke up, I could smell warm food cooking in the kitchen. I wrapped myself up in a blanket before walking out to the living room. McKenzie was standing by the stove stirring a warm pot of penne pasta covered in Alfredo sauce. She looked at me with a smile, not saying anything about the blanket, or my nap.  She turned towards the living room.

"Avery! Come see who's awake!" My other roommate,Avery, stands up from the couch and comes to stand by Kenzie and me. A few seconds later, and with a groan of protest,  her new boyfriend, Aric, stands up as well. It was really no surprise when Avery got a boyfriend first. She's definitely pretty- with light brown hair and green eyes- she is also into drama, and all three of us do choir, but she sounds the best. Aric comes to stand behind Avery and wraps his arms around her waist. He whispers something in her ear and kisses her cheek before grabbing his coat and leaving.

We sit down at the table and as Kenzie starts dishing out the food into three seperate bowls, Avery sighs.

"I wish he would stay around a bit more. "

"Or, that he took you to his place?"Kenzie teased. Avery grabbed a napkin from the basket on our table, crumpled it up and threw it at Kenzie, who easily dodged it.

"At least I have a boyfriend. Maybe you would too, if you finally got up the courage to talk to Isaac." Kenzie blushed bright red, I couldn't help but laugh. She had this crush on Isaac ever since he came to town. He arrived with Aaron, Aric, and the rest of their group. They are all kind of like brothers in their own weird ways. Both Kenzie and Avery looked at me and I knew I was going to get now.

"Well what about you Anne? Ashlee told me that the new guy, Aaron, has a thing for ya." Avery teased. They both started to make kissing faces, and teasing remarks.

"Wow guys. Way to act like five year olds!" They both grabbed napkins and threw them at me. We couldn't stop laughing for a whole, like, twenty minutes after that.

I couldn't help but feel happy. At peace. If it weren't for these moments, i probably wouldn't have made it this long. In the midst of out giggling I heard something smack our living room window. But it was so dark out, I couldn't see if I tried. We had all stopped laughing. Avery had grown quite alert.

"What was that?" Avery glared at the window, or something outside the window I couldn't see. I was about to ask her about it but her face relaxed and she turned her full attention back to her supper. It was very quiet after that. I think we were all wondering what had hit our window. But the sound, all it reminded me of was the shadow I saw this afternoon.
