Day 1: The perfect Christmas present // Jay x Nya

Yay, it's finally December  (it may still be November in other parts of the world but here it's 5:45 in the morning 🙂)!

Of course, I had to start this book with my favourite pairing 😍 - also because I don't want bear2710  to be sad!
But across all my books, this is now the firth Jaya chapter I have published in a row, four of them just this week... And while, of course, there can never ever be enough Jaya fluff, the next couple of chapters are going to focus on some other characters 😉. Btw, you can still request characters and/or pairings that you would like to see in this book!

This oneshot was already published on my FF account for last Christmas, but I really like it and therefore wanted to include it here as well. Also, this is the 'backstory' to the voucher mentioned in The Proposal!

It is set after DotD, but before HoT.

From the Heart

Jay checked his watch. It was already twenty past three, so he only had forty minutes left, before he was supposed to meet again with his friends at the food court.

Today was one of their rare days off, so the six ninja had gone to the biggest mall in Ninjago to do their Christmas shopping. It must be the busiest place in the whole country these days... Jay thought, as he was trying to squeeze through the crowd of people who had all seemed to have had the same idea as them on this rainy Sunday afternoon.

And while Jay's shopping list was not very long - there was actually only one item on it - that did not make it an easy task.

He had already gotten his present for his parents a while ago. With some help from Cole's father, the blue ninja had managed to get VIP tickets for the long sold-out New Year's Eve concert of the Royal Blacksmiths, including a three-course dinner beforehand. And Jay and his friends had agreed that, instead of five small presents, they would only get one gift each from the rest of the team. And while all five teammates would decide on the present together and all chip in, one of them was then nominated to purchase it.

This year, Jay had to take care of Cole's gift, which had not been a difficult choice at all. Since he had been turned human again, the Earth Ninja had been so obsessed with water, that Jay had recently started to call him the Master of Mud instead. Cole would take longer showers even than Kai and use simply any opportunity to get soaked, either from the rain or during one of their, now very frequent, water fights – although for some reason unknown, Cole insisted that these could not happen inside their new home at the Temple of Airjitzu. So, his friends had decided to get him the biggest and most powerful backpack water gun available on the market, as well as five smaller versions for the rest of the team. (Although she technically didn't need it, Nya had insisted that she wanted to have one as well.) Jay had been surprisingly organised and had ordered the set online already a few weeks ago, during the Black Friday sales. Not only had this saved them all a lot of money and Jay the effort to get them home himself – he felt only a tiny bit guilty that the mailman now had to deal with that problem – but the blue ninja would also have more time now to choose the perfect Christmas gift for his girlfriend, of course, he had already contributed to the team's present for the female Water Ninja, but he also wanted to give her something else.

The problem was that he had no idea what this something special was supposed to be.

Well, that was not entirely true. He knew exactly what he wanted to give her, but he also knew that this was not the right time for it. He and Nya had just gotten back together and, although their relationship was stronger than it ever used to be, they were still taking it slowly, so an engagement ring was not an option. Not yet. Jay therefore kept looking at the same store windows over and over again, in search for the perfect present. But he just couldn't see anything that looked special enough for Nya to him.
