"my head hurts,"
i mumbled in complaint,
tossing and turning in the bed that didn't seem to feel right against me.
my body was cold,
yet i felt wildly feverish.
"you're running a fever, love."
stanley frowned,
wrapping his arms around me to keep me close.
"mm, no. i'm not sick. i'm fine."
i attempted to rise up from my spot in the bed,
but the pounding in my head forced me to sit back down.
"mhm, yeah you're sick. get some rest,"
he suggested,
closing his eyes in an attempt to get me to mimic him.
i smiled as best as my lethargic muscles could.
"we were supposed to go out today,"
i whispered with a frown.
he laughed lightly,
shaking his head full of blonde curls.
"we have plenty of time for dates, okay? the more you rest, the quicker you'll get better. so...your decision."
he grinned down at me,
then pressed his lips to the top of my sweltering head.
he then got up from the bed to turn the fan on for my fevered body to try and cool me off.
he climbed back into the bed,
getting comfortable,
and wrapping his arms around me as i laid into his chest.
"i love you."
i said through the sickness in my body begging to pull me under.
i saw his lips turn up in a smile.
"i love you more."

when i woke up,
i was coughing up a lung,
sweating in every inch of my body,
and my head was pounding.
"stan,"
i whispered hoarsely.
i closed my eyes in pain then poked him,
not having the strength to do much more.
he soon slowly opened his eyes,
watching me with tiredness clouding them.
"hey, you feeling better?"
he asked with a sleepy smile.
i shook my head and groaned.
"i feel worse."
he frowned then kissed the tip of my nose.
"lay back down. i'll be right back."
stan got up from the bed and headed out,
returning only a couple minutes later.
in his hand were bottles of water, ginger ale, and the purple cough syrup my stomach rolled at seeing.
"no! no! i'm not taking that."
i spoke with defiance.
stan smiled at my stubbornness but never let his tone waver,
"come on, y/n. be a big girl,"
he teased.
"don't make fun of me. i'm sick."
"i know, my love. and i'm trying to help you get better."
"anything but that,"
i said,
pointing a finger at the bottle.
"i don't have anything but this. please? for me?"
"no."
"fine. i'll take it with you."
he smiled with batted eyelashes,
making me groan.
"alright, alright, fine."
i downed the foul liquid to see his smile one more time,
and i found myself wincing as it traveled down my throat.
he then tipped the medicine back himself and drank it for my sake.
him and i quickly grabbed the water bottle,
drinking as fast as we could.
i shivered and shook my head quickly,
trying to rid myself of the taste.
"ugh. gross."
stan helped me get up to trail to the bathroom so we brush my teeth before falling back asleep.
when we returned,
i pressed my backside to his chest and felt his hand snake around my waist.
my eyes were growing heavy with each passing second,
and the steady breathing of stan,
brushing against my neck,
acted as a lullaby and lulled me to sleep.
he pressed a kiss to my temple and let his lips brush my ear before speaking,
"i love you."
drowsily,
i returned,
"i love you."
the two of us fell asleep with hearts happy and content,
and cough medicine running through our systems.
