"you're dumb,"
richie spoke with a scoff.
all eddie did was shrug in response,
being confident in his intelligence enough to look over that.
"you're just crude."
"hey! don't get mad at me! you know she's hot."
he grinned throwing his hands in the air in mock surrender.
eddie hated the way richie talked about his y/n.
the way he discussed how hot she was,
as though she were only meant for good looks.
while it was true y/n was crazy beautiful,
there laid many more great qualities about her that deserve recognition.
"y-you like y/n, d-d-don't you?"
bill asked giving him a nudge,
grinning along with richie.
"both of you just shut up, okay?"
eddie groaned,
turning on his feet to shy away from the boys.
when the boys began to play basketball,
eddie sat back to retie his already tied shoe laces;
a weak attempt at skipping out on the game.
"hey!"
y/n greeted as she arrived,
taking a seat next to a now blushing eddie.
"h-hey."
he stuttered out,
fiddling with his fingers in nervous habit.
"why aren't you playing?"
she asked,
gesturing towards the boys passing the almost deflated ball around.
he shrugged lightly,
not wanting to admit he hated sports in their entirety.
he was sure that a girl like y/n, so beautiful and so bright, would laugh at a boy like him.
"yeah eddie! come play,"
richie teased with the ball to his hip.
eddie made a mocking face then turned his attention back to a wondering y/n.
"yeah! go play, eddie. i wanna watch!"
how could he deny the request of that smile?
"o-okay,"
he agreed,
standing on shaky knees.
eddie decided that this was his moment;
his moment to show y/n that he, too, could be macho manly and toss a stupid ball around.
he could be anything she wanted so long as she asked.
eddie soon tripped on his own feet from the nerves and fell to the ground without support,
knocking the air loose from his lungs.
he waited for the air to find itself back in himself,
but it never came.
eddie was left on the ground gasping,
then reached for his fanny pack that never left his waist.
though the one time he'd taken it off,
he needed it the most.
he eyed it with intensity,
seeing it next to y/n,
and tried his hardest to point at it.
"what it is, eddie?"
stanley asked,
the rest of the boys crowding over him in worry.
y/n soon pushed through the crowd and handed eddie his inhaler,
the cool air finding refuge in his now burning lungs.
"are you okay?"
y/n asked with a reassuring smile,
though eddie could see the panic clear in her eyes.
"yeah. i am now."
y/n laced her hand with his then helped him up,
seeing the blood drip down his knee and a scraped up elbow.
l
"took quite the fall, huh?"
"yeah, apparently."
the guys now crowded behind y/n,
grinning ear to ear at their well overdue flirty interaction.
"i can fix that up for you if you'd like,"
she offered,
their hands still tangled together.
eddie felt his heart flutter.
"i'd like nothing more than that."

y/n sat him on the lid of her toilet,
grabbing the alcohol and neosporin from beneath the sink.
she kneeled on the floor near him,
her smile still evident and radiating.
she took the q-tip,
dipping it in the clear bottle of alcohol,
and warned him before the cleanse.
"this might sting a little."
eddie nodded and listened to the sizzling of his flesh in the liquid.
he flinched and bit his tongue,
soon tasting the blood he drew,
but kept his composure for the sake of y/n.
she then placed the gel on the center of the band-aid and laid it on his knee gently.
"you okay?"
"yeah, fine."
she nodded then repeated the steps again with his elbow.
but this time more cautiously.
"ooh eddie. i think this ones infected,"
she spoke,
her silky voice filled with worry.
eddie violently jerked his head up to stare at her with panicked eyes.
"oh my god. really?"
she snickered,
shaking her head no.
"i'm just playing. i'm sorry."
eddie knew that, usually, he would've been mad at a joke like this.
infections are nothing to joke about,
he'd say.
but with y/n,
things were different.
he could laugh with her,
even if it was at his expense.
they laughed at the cruel joke together.
"you can't do that to me ever again, y/n,"
he spoke in a breath then laughed.
"i won't, i won't. promise."
she smoothed her fingers over the bandaid then folded her hands together.
"all done."
"thank you, really."
"of course. anything for my favorite germaphobe."
her face was inches away from his.
he could feel her minty breath brushing against his cheeks and making his eyes water,
and soon his lips were tingling with the need for her.
they closed the space,
feeling the softness of each other become the only care in the world.
eddie soon pulled back and stared at her gleaming eyes.
"i like you,"
he admitted quickly.
y/n giggled.
"i would hope so. kissing me like that."
the two of them laughed before heading to her room,
holding each other close with no intentions to let go.
