Chapter 4: Troubled

Kirino's POV

"Do you believe what Kageyama told us...? Shindou?" Me and Shindou were all alone in the park, sitting one of the swings. We were just finished eating along with Hikaru who left early, having busy chores and assignments to do as a reason. But as his senpai's, we let him go and do as he please.

"...I don't know" I glanced at Shindou, as I expected, he was hesitant to answer me.

"So he was completely out of himself, it's like he wasn't from himself. From the way Kageyama described him, he was awfully depressed about it. Is there something else we don't know about Kariya...?" 

Shindou kept his silence in toll which I find it confusing and curious. In fact, I've never seen him act like this before, what's with the change?

"k-kirino..."

I look over to Shindou, blushing, forcing himself to talk straight to me which made me surprised. I went to comfort him and accepted it, followed by grabbing my hand and whispered.

"If I asked you something...Are you willing to promise me something...? "

I felt my heart beating fast and my face heating up, what is this sensation I'm feeling? Ignoring my thoughts rambling inside my head, I replied back with a determined look.

"I'll do anything just for you Shindou...You're my best friend right?"

He laughed earnestly before looking at me head on, grinning "I knew you'll say that..." but those weren't serious at all. His eyes, they were hinted in disappointment. My heart sank deep and I don't even know why...

Did I say something bad?

"Ranmaru!! You're spacing out!!" Coach Endou yelled at me, looking myself in the middle of the soccer grounds, head's downward. "G-gomennasai!!" I ran up and immediately search the whole area whoever has the ball in possession, and Tsurugi has it.

"Coach is right, you're spacing out. That's rare." I don't want his words affecting me. I ignored him and stole the ball with force. I saw Tsurugi with a surprised expression which didn't bother me at all. "Hamano!" but with shock, he was being guarded. I look around and saw Tenma waving his hand as a sign of pass, and so I did.

"Tenma!" I successfully passed the ball to him as he dribbles pass our opponent. I adjust myself and looked at the field, ready.

Shindou ran passed me and saw his head tilted to my side. I saw his lips moved but I didn't caught his words very clearly but I don't want him to be the reason why I'm out focused. Right now I'm nowhere near him, and I have to catch up.

"Kariya!" I heard Shindou's voice breaking the trance around me. I saw Kariya headed towards our goal and I didn't back down to try to stop him. "Kirino-senpai!"

Whoever called my name, I didn't bother to listen to them. Me and Kariya are face to face and I had to use my hissatsu technique "Deep Mis---"

"That won't work on me anymore!" "Kirino-senpai!" Kariya broke through as he charge right at me causing me to fall. Damn, it hurts.

"Shindou-senpai!" I stood up causing me to trip but I hurriedly stand at my feet to catch up, but I was too late.

"Fortissimo!" Shindou kicked the ball in force and Shinsuke didn't have enough time to react, so the ball went in.

The sound of the whistle was heard and another one as well, the practice match ended.
