I'm too young to die! the thought burst inside Buddy's head, holding his breath for as long as possible. But his lungs were losing air fast. To the dachshund, he felt like they were going to explode. He wanted to head for the surface. However, he had somehow managed to get halfway stuck underneath a submerged log. His left flank and hip stung with pain. Mel, I wish you were here, Buddy thought quietly, darkness starting to surround him when he saw a flash of white swimming towards him, like an angel descending from the heavens...

"Buddy? Buddy, can you here me?" a voice spoke gently. Blinking his eyes, the dachshund saw a gleaming white face with sparkling blue eyes, like the ones of his deceased grandmother. "Grandma..." Buddy whispered when, all of the sudden, he was slapped across the face. Snapping out of it, Buddy saw Gidget staring at him. "Do I seriously look like your grandmother?!" she exclaimed, glancing at her reflection in the water. The dachshund shook his head rapidly. That was embarrassing...

Taking a deep breath, Gidget looked Buddy straight in the eye and declared, "I hope you've rested, because we need to find the others right now."
