Chapter I

"So, gods exist then?"

"Yes.....you seem very calm for a mortal who just discovered immortal beings exist."

"I already knew you gods existed, but I don't have any connection with you immortals so why should I bother?"

"How did you know we immortal beings exist?" He replied, interested.

"The gods in our mythologies can't come out of nowhere. It is possible the myths describe people with abilities during the early days of humanity, but you can't exactly hide the World Serpent that easily."

"I told them to make a better illusion to hide him, though I wonder how Jormungandr is doing, It has been a while since I met him."

"I thought that serpent was the enemy of the gods?"

"Your kin probably saw one of us argue with him."

"An argument managed to destroy a mountain?"

"We get very carried away when we get angry."

"How about the greek gods?"

"Are you asking if they are siblings?"

"Yes, that is what I am asking about."

".....Yes, they are all siblings."

"That...."

"Yes, I know what you are thinking, but we immortals have different mindsets than you humans."

I sighed "Alright, but it doesn't really change my view on siblings marrying each other."

"It's alright."

"How about the creatures and monsters of your mythologies then, do they exist?"

"Yes, including beasts like the minotaur, the chimera and the hydra."

"Alright, this has gone on long enough, why are you here?"

"....A storm is brewing."

"Let me guess, there are differing opinions among your pantheons?"

"Yes, but this will be different."

"How?"

"There are occurrences of differing opinions between pantheons. However, They are usually between two pantheons and only involve some gods. This one is much bigger as it will involve four pantheons, including the Greek, Egyptian, Norse and Roman. All the gods in them are part of it."

"How destructive will it be?"

"It will be destructive enough to make your world wars look like a water balloon fight."

"Damn, fine what do you want me to do about it?" I say as I look at him straight in the eye. "I am just a mortal man, a strong mortal yes, but still just a mortal."

"Even if we are gods, we still have rules and the rules entail that gods cannot engage in direct combat unless they were allowed, by every single god, from every single pantheon must agree."

"So you want me to fight for you?"

"Is that really your question?" He looked at me with shock and covered his face. "You are one of the strongest and most skilled mortals ever. You are proficient in almost every weapon, hell even weapons used a millennia ago." He sighed. "You are an expert in stealth and assassination. Just the fact you discovered we exist is enough for almost every god to offer you to fight for them."

"True, though I only discovered you immortals because you can't exactly hide something that can wrap it's body around the entire planet. Also, which god are you?"

He looked at me, amused. "My name is Thanatos, greek god of death. The one who brings the souls of the dead to the underworld."

"Huh......an assassin gets a job offer from the greek god of death?"

"True, this is a bit amusing."

"What about the other gods, are they doing this too?"

"Yes, even Hypnos woke up to look for a champion."

"If the god of sleep himself woke up, this is serious."

"Also," Thanatos got up. "The moment you become a champion or chosen, you get abilities that are based on your god."

"What abilities?"

"The moment you become a chosen of a god, let's say Apollo, you will get abilities that are connected to your god. So if your god is Apollo, you will be talented with archery, medicine and everything connected to your god."

"Huh, didn't know that?"

"Alright, let's go."

"Where are we going?"

He smiled.

"To the Underworld, the land of the dead."
