Walking down the street to see rileys apartment was a cold walk, i pulled my jacket tighter round my waist and started kicking an empty pepsi can, i mean the walk is exactly the same time as the walk to work and theres no point driving down there as it would just be a waste of petrol and probably a waste of time, and effort.

by the time i reached rileys apartment the cafe had already started to close, i smiled at gavin, my boss and went round the back to a flight of stairs leading to her front door, louis showed me where it was after work yesterday.

the door had some old milk on the front door and a letter crammed in the door, do i have the right house?

i knocked to make sure and right on que riley opened the door,

“oh hey you are exactly on time i thought you would be late, sorry i was last minute tidying” riley apologised and put a place mat in a box.

“its alright, i would have done the same” i smiled and she beaconed for me to sit on the sofa, i did as she said and she came over and sat in an arm chair opposite the sofa,

“the others will be here in a minute, but uhm my rooms there, the other bedroom is there, the bathroom is over there and well the kitchen isn't hard to miss” she pointed to everything as she said about them,

“others? are you interviewing everyone at once?” i asked confused

“oh no its everyone you saw at the coffee house this morning, we all meet up with the roommate in question to see if they fit into our group well enough but since you are already friends with louis we shouldn't have much of a problem, some tea? coffee?” she asked stood behind a counter holding some mugs,

"yeah, tea would be nice, milk two sugars?”

“you right there have already earn yourself a point, you see we all drink tea here, sometimes coffee to look professional but thats mainly in public” she laughed boiling the kettle and putting the tea bags in the mugs

“hey uhm i know its your place and everything but you said how everyone drinks tea here so why don't you use the tea pot to save time and tea bags, that way instead of using four for me, you and the tea pot when the others come in, we only use two for the teapot” i added a small smile on the end and she seemed to contemplate the idea, while nodding she put the tea bags in the kettle and looked at me grinning widely.

“you don't know how much that saved me” she laughed and took out four more mugs, putting the right amount of sugar in each, there was a cat mug, a football mug, a plain one (probably mine), one with a dog, another football and lastly one with a unicorn and a rainbow.

“hey riley is that girl here yet? oh hey sky i was just talking about you” carter burst through the front door, followed behind by everyone see

“oooh you put the tea in the pot today riley, you must have had a brainwave” eva stated pulling a seat at the kitchen table, it was small and it only had four chairs, two already taken by me and now eva.

louis came behind me and put his hands on my shoulders, i looked her and he smiled down at me, i smiled back.

“can i talk to you later?” he whispered whilst subtly giving me a shoulder massage.

i nodder putting my hands on his.

“Sky how long does it usually take to brew in the kettle?” Riley asked me trying to look through the hole placed there for steam.

“a few more minutes then it will be ready to pour” i informed her, she nodded and put the cat face shaped tea cozy back on.

its kind of sweet but weird they don't know how to use the tea pot, I've used it since i was really young…

“Oh Riley can i talk to you outside for a minute? There may be something that effects me applying here” i said quietly, only Riley heard, luckily.

she nodded and hooked arms with me, slipping out the door to the balcony at the back. once outside we sat on an old bench.

“so whats up?” she asked, seeming casual but there was worry in her voice.

“well you know i met louis in hospital? well i was there because i was finding out results if i had cancer, which the results came back positive, i wasn't at the hospital today seeing my nan i was there getting my first chemo, thats why i shaved my head and am looking for a nice group of friends before i, if i do, die” i said quickly, telling it like that made me feel so relieved.

She looked suddenly sad but instantly pulled me into a tight hug.

“i will help you through every step of this, don't worry about it” she smiled holding either side of me

i only met her yesterday but i seem so drawn into this friend group already, its nice to finally have a decent friend group.
