The group ran into the cockpit of the ship, and Rey pointed towards a ladder that led down a hatch. "Gunner position is down there!" Finn immediately climbed down the ladder, and Yamcha sighed. "What am I supposed to do?" Rey sat in the cockpit seat and patted the co-pilot's seat. "You can help my fly this old thing." Yamcha sat in the co-pilot seat. "I don't know how to fly this." Rey began to flip switches and pull levers. "You'll get the hang of it." "And if I don't?" "Then we'll make an error and most likely die." Yamcha rolled his eyes. "Sounds like an average day for me." Rey finished readying the ship for launch. Then, she pulled a final lever, and the ship blasted off.
"Whoa!" Yamcha shouted as the ship rocketed into the sky. He quickly grabbed two joysticks in front of him. "What does this do?" he wondered aloud. He pressed a button on the top of each joystick, and red lasers suddenly fired, raining down on the dunes below. Yamcha grinned. "Oh, yeah! I can work with this." Then, the whine of TIE Fighter engines filled the air, and Rey grimaced. "They're still after us!" Yamcha glanced behind his seat. "Finn! Can you keep 'em busy?" A muffled voice replied: "Doing my best!" Immediately after that, one of the blips that represented the TIE Fighters disappeared, and a cheer was heard from the gunner's hatch. "Woo! You see that?" "Nice!" Yamcha shouted back.
The ship was rocked again, and Yamcha quickly redirected his attention to his own job. "Yamcha, hit that switch!" Rey said, pointing towards a small red switch. Yamcha nodded and flipped it, and the ship seemed to gain a boost in speed. "Hold on! I'm going to give Finn a clear shot!" Rey warned. Yamcha nodded. "Good to know!" They flew the ship through a giant tunnel that looked like the engine casing of a much larger ship, but unfortunately, the TIE Fighter managed to follow them. They flew over a cliff when suddenly Rey hit a few buttons, and the engines died- while their ship was upside down.
"What-" Yamcha started, but Rey gave him a look that read wait for it. Yamcha reluctantly nodded, then shouted towards the gunner's hatch. "Get ready!" He looked back at the radar. There was the sound of lasers firing, and the blip disappeared. Rey quickly restored power to the engines, and the ship blasted off into space. Yamcha cheered. "Yes! That was awesome!" Rey cheered as well, and Finn came back up the ladder, grinning. "You see that shot?" Yamcha laughed and held up his hand for a high-five, and Finn looked puzzled. "What are you doing?" Yamcha blinked. "It's a high-five." Finn slowly gave Yamcha a high-five, and then they turned towards Rey, who was snickering at their expense. BB-8 gave a triumphant beep. Suddenly, a hatch blew open.
Rey quickly explained the situation and ran off to try and fix the problem, and Finn crouched down next to BB-8 and whispered something to him. Eventually, BB-8 gave a reluctant yet still agreeing beep, and Finn sighed with relief. Rey quickly rejoined the group. "Alright, where is the Reistance base?" Finn and Yamcha shot a knowing look at BB-8, who replied with a beep. "The Ileenium system?" Finn nodded quickly. "Yeah! The Ileenium system, that's the one. Get us there as fast as you can." Before Rey could reply, smoke billowed from the hatch she had just gone down into, and an alarm began to go off as well.
"That's not good!" Rey exclaimed. Finn ran to her side, and they both peered out as Yamcha looked around in surprise. "See anything?" Rey asked. Finn climbed onto the co-pilot's seat and looked out from the cockpit window. "Oh, no... It's the First Order!" Rey sat in the pilot's seat and began to press multiple buttons. "What do we do? There must be something!" Finn slumped back in the co-pilot's seat. "Die." Rey began to press buttons and flip switches more frantically. "There must be other options than die!" Yamcha unsheathed his sword. "Someone's coming!" he hissed. Then, a hatch in the floor of the ship burst upward, and green smoke trickled out. Rey quickly explained that the gas would be very, very bad for the ship, and the group headed into the hatch to fix things. As they attempted to do so, there was the hiss of a door opening, and a low roar was heard. Then, the voice of an old man rang out in the total silence. "Chewie. We're home."
