Awww what a cute bean
I couldn't think of a song
Before Harry Potter, I never really connected that much with male heroes. Most of them just didn't have that much personality. But then I met Harry, and I can't stand it when people call him a jerk or a Marty Stu, because that's exactly what I love him for not being.
I love how Harry's most emphasized ability (by Dumbledore at least) isn't his powers, but his kindness and capacity to love. What stood out to me while reading the books is how important it was to him that people were treated fairly, whether it be house elves like Dobby, muggle-borns like Hermione, or just people who were "different", like Luna and Neville. And I also admire his modesty, and how he almost never lets fame go to his head. Especially in the first book, despite all the crap he's been put through, he's just so adorably unassuming you can't help but love him. Plus Daniel Radcliffe is amazing.
He's also very funny, and gets some epic roasts through the course of the series. Perhaps my favorite is this one from Sorcerer's Stone:
"They stuff people's heads down toilets the first day at Stonewall," Dudley told Harry. "Want to come and practice?"
"No thanks, said Harry. " The poor toilet's never had anything as horrible as your head down it- it might be sick."
OOOOOHHH BUUUUUURN
He's not overpowered either, like some who take the "Marty Stu " stance may claim. It takes him many tries to produce a proper Patronus, but he acheives it with a lot of practice. And its not an ability he alone has either, as he teaches others his age to do the same. He's not the most talented or intelligent in his group, Hermione is. And that's what I love about the Golden Trio, their differences compliment each other perfectly.
But of course, its Harry's courage I admire most, not just because he's the hero, but because he taught me something valuable. Harry sacrifices himself willingly to Voldemort, just as his mother did for him, despite how scared he is. He taught me bravery isn't lack of fear, but the willingness to do what must be done in spite of it. (He ends up coming back, but that's beside the point) And of course, one has to love the epic monologue he delivers as he fights Voldemort for the last time.
Harry shows that its not the powers, but the person, that makes the hero, and that's why he's my favorite leading male character of all time.
