August

After sending out a text to Deuce to swing by the crib in about an hour, I slipped my phone back in my pocket. I needed to pick up my cousin Sneak and my sister in law, Chandra, from the airport in a few hours and wanted somebody to ride with me. They were flying in from New Orleans to stay for the Summer. I was hoping they'd at least stay for good once they got a taste of that ATL living. I honestly wanted all my people to move close to me; the ones that I was actually close with, anyway. Nola is home, and I'd always rep it and love it - but, there were so many fucked up memories still lingering there.

I turned my hat to the back as I jogged down the stairs on my quest for the kitchen. As I got closer, I heard talking. It sounded like Danica, but I wasn't too sure. Once I reached the entrance, I saw her and Kody seated at the island. Kody's attention was on her phone and it looked as if Danica was being her usual nosey ass self, leaning in to see it.

"Wait... Is that Tremaine, as in Trey? Trigga?" I heard Danica ask as I walked in.

My brows furrowed at the sound of Trey's name being mentioned in their conversation, making me wonder what was up. Especially since the question was being directed to Kody. Me and her had, had a few talks about him and how I wanted her to keep her dealings with the nigga at a minimum. I meant that.

"What about Trigga?" I asked, giving them a look as I walked past where they were seated at the island.

I continued to the cabinet where I grabbed a glass, preparing to pour me up some OJ and vodka. It was the weekend, so a nigga was starting early.

"Nun'... Kody's just textin' him." Danica confessed nonchalantly as I grabbed the juice from the fridge.

There it was - the first thing that would test whatever Kody and I had. Since me and her had started messing around, nothing had really happened to determine whether or not we would be able to deal with one another on that level without shit getting messy. Since we were just fucking around with no title, we didn't owe each other any loyalty in reference to whether or not we saw other people on the side. I still had my hoes, but as far as I knew Kody only had me - and to keep it on some real shit, that's how I preferred it. So hearing Dani say she was texting Trey instantly put me on edge.

I quickly tore my gaze from the fridge and placed it on Kody, my brows lifted in surprise.

Kody gave Danica a look that showed she wasn't too happy with her making her business known. "That is who you're textin', right? Or is that another Tremaine?" Danica innocently asked her before sinking her teeth into her apple.

I stood at the other end, looking intently at Kody through the clear lenses of my glasses, waiting on her to respond. I just knew she hadn't been holding conversations with Trey, mind you, on the phone that I'd just bought for her ass. My mind wandered to when they had even exchanged numbers in the first place. The fuck they had to talk about?

Kody took her glare from Danica and looked to me as I poured me some juice.

"Um..." I heard her clear her throat behind me as I put the juice back and went over to my liquor cabinet. "Can I talk to you in private for a second, Daddy?"

Though she had gotten comfortable with calling me by my name, I advised her not to in front of the other girls - knowing it would raise suspicion and pose a problem to her, especially with her being a new girl. Only Dutch, Amelia and Sevyn were allowed to use my real name. I had more of a brother/sister relationship with the three.

I wasn't quick with a response to her question, and instead I looked over all of the bottles of liquor in my cabinet. I already knew I wasn't gonna like the shit she had to tell me. My eyes skimmed from bottle to bottle until I finally decided on my Smirnoff Red No. 21. I grabbed it and turned back to her.
